You guys are GREAT!

Previously:
In our last Fundraising Update we had raised $1,808.21 (net) towards our goal of $3,500.00 for the 2nd half of the year. (And five days earlier we stood at just $1,510.49).

Currently:
And where are we now? Hold onto your seat...

mysql>  SELECT SUM(payment_gross) AS Gross, SUM(payment_net) AS Net, ts, max(spid) AS SPID FROM subscribe_payments WHERE ts >= '2021-07-01' ;
+---------+---------+---------------------+------+
| Gross   | Net     | ts                  | SPID |
+---------+---------+---------------------+------+
| 2435.06 | 2307.23 | 2021-07-01 02:15:00 | 1727 |
+---------+---------+---------------------+------+
1 row in set (0.00 sec)

mysql>

In that time, we had 4x $50.00 subscriptions and a $100.00 subscription (flagged by an "*" below):

mysql> SELECT ts, payment_gross, payment_net, method, submethod, payment_type FROM subscribe_payments WHERE ts > '2021-12-28 13:01:56' AND payment_gross > 0 ORDER BY ts ;

Yes, the larger subscriptions are attention-getting, but $220.00 of that $527.00 came from subscriptions of $20.00 or less.

Remaining:
Since I started writing this, we received two more $20.00 subscriptions! All told, we need just $1,173.96 to make our goal and only 2 days to go. Can we do it? We Can Do This... Please Subscribe!

Ahem. Got carried away there. But seriously, every bit makes a difference; please help.

    One of the $50 subscriptions was at 13:37, too. Maybe it’s just me, but I always have a little frisson of geekiness when I notice that time on the clock…

    I'm a bit late to the party here, but for the next round might it be an idea to provide a list of uids without subscription but with overwhelmingly positive karma, so that one can gift subscriptions to those who have contributed positively? Or even anonymously so, "just" another selection on the subscription page for "give subscription to random contributing user" sort of thing?

      Karma maxes out at 50. It's easy enough to trigger some snowflake and get a troll/flamebait/offtopic or two, but you have to be a complete arsehole to have less than 48 after you've been posting for a while.

      Just pick a post you like that has a username with no subscription badge (gold star) showing, and make their day. They will get an email about it.

        Better still, find someone you hate and gift them a subscription. Make them utterly conflicted.

      Make shirts and hoodies with just the logo. The current ones feel very billboardy, hut if they were subtler, I'd buy at least one or two a year and wear them around.

        For example, take the URL off this. It's unnecessary and ugly. People are going to type it into a search engine or browser search bar more likely anyway, and they're also more likely to ask about the shirt.

        I just don't think wearing full HTTP URLs is trendy anymore. And I buy clothes both to support things and to wear.

        Nice thought, but swag seems more for fund raising off the probably very small percentage that the vendor passes on.

        I still have my 10th anniversary green site t-shirts that I wear occasionally. I really ought to buy a SoylentNews shirt.

        Is the green site overridden with Brits imposing their cultural hegemony? I would have thought that you would welcome free speech in all forms, including correct English, and not the degenerate form used in the former North American colonies.

        But I'm not disagreeing completely with you, old fruit: more editors of any stripe would be welcome and useful. What-ho!

    I used to enjoy a gift subscription from a noble and low ID Soylentil. I cannot subscribe myself, since money is a direct trace back to my actual identity. Since my benefactor has ceased, I have a sense that perhaps the value of SN has diminished? Only a surmise on my part. So I hope that the discussions here can repudiate the alt, and traditional, right wing bias that seems to have taken over SoylentNews, only in part because of the conservative bias of tech nerds, who tend to be egoistic, and incellish, and lacking in social skills.

      Consider to open another account and subscribe for that. If, on principle, no traces must be left, what is your proposal to make a site like SN viable?

      Conservative bias?? A few conservatives, yes. They don't strike me as far right fascists, screaming that Trump won the 2020 election.

      As to staying anonymous, it's somewhat of a bother, but you can pay cash for a preloaded credit card, and use that to buy stuff online with reasonable anonymity. I've done that before, but it's been a while, so I don't recall whether I used a fake name, or no name was needed. Think it was the latter.

        Thanks for the advice! Getting a burner card, and a burner phone to go with, just to subscribe to SN, is a bit too much bother. I like to think my contribution is in aristarchus submissions, and adding a bit of intellectual panache to the place.
