  On that topic, The Verge raised some unfortunate points on that topic yesterday in their article, The American system of democracy has crashed [theverge.com]:

  To be clear, SCOTUS didn’t override the 14th Amendment, it just pretended that it would be some kind of a horrible overreach [scotusblog.com] to tell the executive branch that the 14th Amendment is real.

  • “transporting us beyond Seas to be tried for pretended offences [time.com]”

  • “Obstructing the Laws for Naturalization of Foreigners [npr.org]; refusing to pass others [apnews.com] to encourage [theverge.com] their migrations hither [nbcnews.com]”

  • “erect[ing] a multitude of New Offices, and sen[ding] hither swarms of Officers to harrass our people” [ice.gov]

  • keeping “among us, in times of peace [reuters.com], Standing Armies without the Consent of our legislatures” [cbsnews.com]

  • attempting “to render the Military independent of and superior to the Civil power. [newyorker.com]”

  • “cutting off our Trade with all parts of the world [theverge.com]”

  • “depriving us in many cases, of the benefits of Trial by Jury [reuters.com]”

  • “excit[ing] domestic insurrections amongst us [wikipedia.org]”

  The parallels between what the recent administrations, especially the current one, and the original reasons to declare independence from the UK are disturbing. It's even worse when you track not just that he appears to be taking orders but also from whom [theatlantic.com].
