The US Supreme Court has partially lifted an injunction against President Donald Trump's travel ban.

The Supreme Court said in Monday's ruling: "In practical terms, this means that [the executive order] may not be enforced against foreign nationals who have a credible claim of a bona fide relationship with a person or entity in the United States.

"All other foreign nationals are subject to the provisions of [the executive order]."

Mark this down as a win for Donald Trump. The path to entry into the US for immigrants and refugees from the affected nations, if they don't have existing ties to the US - either through family, schools or employment - just became considerably harder.

The decision marks a reaffirmation of the sweeping powers the president has traditionally been granted by the courts in areas of national security. There was fear in some quarters that the administration's ham-fisted implementation of its immigration policy could do lasting damage to the president's prerogatives. That appears not to be the case.

Everyone (at least those close to sane) fully expected SCOTUS to overturn the lawless Ninth Circus so that really isn't news. They knew they would be overturned, they are trying to invent a new power to impose a delay and cost on any Executive Order that the Cathedral doesn't like. No, what was truly newsworthy was the 9-0 vote with the only dissent being from Justices who wanted to make this a simple "toss it out of court" rebuke to the Ninth. When you can't even get R.B.G. or one of the other Progressives, you know you overreached bigtime, and the Ninth, the Media and the Hollywierd Left were all fully invested in the idea this was such an obviously unconstitutional order that it called for mass resistance. Nope. 9-0.

I've been trying to find out what the vote was, but the mass media I read didn't report on that. 9-0. I don't know if the ban makes sense, but the relevant law is clear that the president can arbitrarily ban foreigners from the country.

While not a decision, it does seem to indicate intent. This is a good thing, in my opinion. The intent being that we will allow the application of powers regardless of political affiliation.

"Favour"... I think that speaks volumes to to proposition that your allegiances lie elsewhere than U.S. national security.

The flaw in your thinking is that you believe that you are safer leaving them "over there", rather than letting (some of) them "in here". I think that is a rather dubious proposition. Leaving the problem to fester over there is not a good idea, IMHO. Right now, there are at least two countries that are essentially lawless because of Daesh. If we don't take some of the pressure off, others will almost certainly tumble and fall. Right now, somewhere around 25% of the population of Lebanon are refugees; it seems almost inevitable that they will be headed for another civil war within the next ten to twenty years. There are ominous signs that Turkey is suffering under the strain as well. And Jordan, one of the most pro-western countries in the Middle East, has over half a million refugees inside their borders. We can ill afford to let Jordan slip into chaos. And, regarding national security, refugees and other immigrants are already put through an extensive vetting process, Trump's assertions notwithstanding.

When your Muslim colleagues start growing beards and wearing robes to work, make sure you have a good preplanned escape route in case one of them has an allahu akbar moment.

The decision has not been overturned. The Supreme Court has decided to hear the case in October. Meanwhile, they have a granted a lifting of the injunction for some people. The stay on the ban wasn't overturned -- it was temporarily partially lifted, but severely restricted. SCOTUS has yet to hear the case.

The decision to TAKE the case was 9-0, but the decision to partially LIFT THE STAY was 6-3. Hardly unanimous.

This wasn't a "win" for Trump, though he wants to spin it that way. All it does is allow the ban to be enforced for those coming from those countries if they have no family, residency, work, school, or other significant ties to the US to give them reason to be in the US. The main opposition to the ban was from companies (Microsoft and Oracle for example) who were concerned their VISA-holding employees and their families wouldn't be able to return to work from a trip overseas.

This basically grandfathers in every VISA holder and their families and anyone who wants to come to the USA to visit close family as well as anyone who has been offered a job, been accepted at a university or even invited by a university or business to visit for whatever legitimate purpose.

So... what's left to ban exactly? Vacationers? Potential immigrants who haven't been offered a job yet? It's one thing to say one is allowed to scrutinize to this level, but it's another to implement. (How exactly are they going to verify someone doesn't have the ties they claim to have? Are they going to hold someone in a cell until they get verification from a Fortune 500 company or University that they were indeed invited to speak at an event?) I doubt they bother with it until the SCOTUS case is settled sometime about a year from now.

Talk about a hollow, temporary victory.

A jury decides fact; a judge decides law.
That is how case law is made.

You may be confused by the fact that certain minor criminal-code offenses (including those that could lead to a revocation of your license) are explicitly forbidden a trial by jury; this is strictly a matter of efficiency. However, a lawsuit in which the facts are disputed (is this a credible claim or a bona fide relationship?) is necessarily afforded a trial by jury at the expense of the litigants.

On this, and on every other occasion, however, we have no doubt, you will pay that respect, which is due to the opinion of the court: For, as on the one hand, it is presumed, that juries are the best judges of fact; it is, on the other hand, presumable, that the court are the best judges of the law. Why, yes, I do indeed prefer reality over fantasy. Even if it is uglier. I know that's not your thing though, so I won't pressure you.

You don't understand, its cute in an adult baby shitting its pants kinda way. Red pill is just a catchphrase you rely on and it has troubling overtones. You are a bigot, it is just tied up with your fiscal economics so you're able to delude yourself. Red pill indeed, see a therapist then.

You can't be a bigot unless you're actually bigoted against someone. Having a policy that shows X demographic under-represented is not bigoted unless it says don't hire/admit/etc... X demographic. College admissions based strictly on grades/ACT score/extra curriculars is not bigoted, no matter how much you want it to be. What is bigoted is discriminating against people based on their not being born into your preferred race, which for libtards is black lately. No matter how you want to rationalize it, you are racists as much as any Klan member for holding positions like that.

You know, there's a fan theory about The Matrix that Morpheus, the Red Pill, Zion, and the whole lot of it are actually a secondary containment mechanism for any human batteries that figure out the first layer is a delusion. Under this hypothesis, Neo never actually made it out. And if we're really talking about a world taken over by advanced AI, this is *far* more plausible than the silly, infantile superhero-trope-gasm that the trilogy turned into.

In this case, I can tell you for goddamn sure the "red pill" movement is precisely this kind of thing. You think you've reached some kind of higher level of intellectual function for having had the "dark enlightenment," and so you've been trapped, turned into a useful idiot for the actual ruling class sociopaths.

Y'see, Uzzard, you're not part of the elite. You never will be, no matter how much water you carry for them or how many of their boots you lick. You're as depraved and ignorant as them, but you'll never see any benefit from that depravity.

In a word, you're small-time :) And you always will be, even (perhaps especially...) after you die.

Trilogy? What trilogy? I reject the reality wherein shitty sequels to a perfectly good movie were made. There can be only one Highlander and there can be only one Matrix.

In a word: duh. I had to turn down a lot of work and chances to grow to stay so over the years. I am precisely where I want to be.

Everyone the SJWs complained about not being allowed to enter (family members, those with student places, those with jobs etc.) will now have to be allowed to enter, how exactly is this a defeat for them?

Also, the court in issuing this decision seems to be implicitly agreeing that plaintiffs living in the U.S. may have standing to raise claims of discrimination by relatives, students, or employees living abroad. That may be a big win, and it will last - the actual executive order and the ban runs out in 90 days anyway.

Very happy with the 9-O decision from the S.C. Nine-love, we call it in golf. It means we can shutdown what I call terror tourism. All these tourists come from the bad countries -- Syria, Libya, Iran, Somalia, Sudan, and Yemen -- they come here and they start terrorizing. Let me tell you, those tourists are very scary. And there's tens of thousands of them. That's a lot of terror, folks. So we're stopping the tourism until we can figure out what the hell is going on. And the refugees. Huge, huge problem there too. Hundreds of refugees coming in, taking all the jobs. Now we can stop it. Very similar to what President Obama did in 2011 when he banned visas for refugees from from Iraq for six months. #TrumpAirlines [twitter.com] #TrumpResorts [twitter.com] #TrumpHotels [twitter.com] #WINNING [twitter.com] #MakeAmericaGreatAgain [twitter.com]
