Amos Yee is set to give his first ever public talk at Harvard.

Yee is a teenager from Singapore who has recently been granted political asylum in the US. He was in trouble with the Singaporean regime for repeatedly criticizing the country's late founder, Lee Kuan Yew. His treatment has been marginally better in the US. Although he was granted asylum by the US back in March, he was held in US jail until late September where he ran in to difficulties for his ongoing criticism of Islam. Currently, he is banned from Facebook for alleged, unspecified "community standards" violations. His videos are available on YouTube.

TL;DW: Amos thinks age of consent laws for sex should be eliminated, and according to him, that's the reason Harvard canceled his talk.

Looking more into it, basically he's a young person with little discretion who loudly criticizes things and throws a bunch of controversial opinions out there to see what sticks. He's been granted political asylum from Singapore in the US, where he plans to further criticize both nations.

He seems like a typical Christian-turned-angry-atheist teenager/young adult, and I can't figure out why he's apparently so popular...Maybe related to someone rich and/or famous in Singapore? Anyone know?

I had no idea who he was so I read a few articles and his Wikipedia page, he seems like a douche. Sure, he's young, but I have the feeling he won't grow out of it. Dude bailed him out, he accused dude of molesting him, retracts, accuses again, then gets pedantic about it. That shows the kind of shitty personality that he has. Singapore has some fucked up laws, and he was right to criticize, but I can't help wishing someone would beat him up real good a few times, maybe he will stop being such a dickhead.

On the one hand, I agree with you. Whole-heartedly.

On the other hand, off the top of my head I cannot think of a single instance in my life where I've seen such a beating produce the required result. At best, it teaches them to be sneaky about it.

On the third hand... which I don't actually have, but if I did.. I'd still agree with you. Not sure what that says about me.

Oh, my! I say, send in the Milo! This will make a very much more better coupling than Milo and some long dong Silver, Away! And it has the opportunity to bring in the alienated, unmarried due to the one-child policy in Chaina! radical asian Youth. I, for one, have always been in favor of Youth in Asia. And now, we have the chance to "Make Asia Great Again, Ignoring that it was it's Original Greatness that Caused it to Fall, repeatedly, over several Dynasties". That. And this young boy could be the key to all this. Or at least Milo could teach him what that Pedophile Catholic Priest taught Milo, several years ago before Milo became all old, and, you know, yucky. Perhaps we could get Senatorial Republican Pedophile Candidate Roy Moore to join in on the buggery. Only one small step for a pedophile man, but one Giant step for Libertarians everywhere, who have always wanted to do this kind of stuff, with kids, and not be mocked by the liberal left with all their "political correctness" when it comes to minors, or barnyard animals, or fellow female comediens in your hotel room.

Butt all that booty to the side, what is it about Nazis, fascists, Libertarians, and Buzzards, not to mention some who may be inclined to run away from this discussion, with the gay sex? Surely, it cannot be all that interesting? I mean, yeah, I understand the mechanics, but never the allure. It seems that the alt-right does "get-it", and perhaps on a regular basis? And this fine article is only yet another instance of the gay-sexed alt-right plan for World Domination, or at least more arrest-free sex with young persons of the same gender, or animals.

That doesn't seem to match up with "his ongoing criticism of Islam".

Muslims consider Mohammed to be the perfect man. He married a 6-year-old. He waited until she was nine before sex, but started right off placing his penis between her thighs at age 6.

So this sets the standard all across the Muslim world. Various governments try to discourage it, and sometimes even make it illegal (on paper at least), but the people resist. This is their culture. It is considered good to emulate the perfect man.

It would seem that criticism of Islam would start right there. We can go on of course, just on the topic of sex:

Mohammed said it was OK to satisfy yourself in a sheep or goat. People do! There are numerous videos of it recorded by American soldiers in the Middle East, particularly in Afghanistan. Just this past week a migrant in Europe got busy with a donkey in a children's petting zoo.

That bit about women being covered around non-family? There is an official Mohammed-approved escape clause. If a man has nursed on a woman, then she is considered family (like mother-son) even if he nurses while not a kid. No joke, it's in the Koran. Mohammed ordered someone to do this.

Although gays get chucked off of buildings (by order of Mohammed), it only counts if you are willingly receptive. That is, you have to choose to receive. That's it. All the rest is fine. American troops in Afghanistan were often haunted by the screams of small boys. The adults thought nothing of it, since they'd mostly been treated that way as kids and it was all just normal to them. We actually told troops to avoid interfering (not the mission, and that is their culture...) and court-marshaled one of our own who couldn't resist stepping in to protect the kids.

Then there is the buying and selling of infidels. There are actual rules for this spelled out in the Koran. Mohammed said it was fine, and he's the perfect man, so he would know.

Maybe not so evil, but funny anyway: Muslims shave their balls. Mohammed says so.

Shaving your balls is just hygienic, especially for hirsute people, which Arabs tend to be. Whiteboys that can't grow a full beard might need to hang onto those couple hairs to make them feel like men, the ready of shave so we can get women to put them in their mouths.

I could go for this. Replace age of consent with tests and measurement:

For both sexes, show a certain level of maturity. Avoid political topics. Test for reading and writing. Show a history of meeting deadlines and commitments.

For males, show an income capable of fully supporting a family of at least 3.

For females, show the ability to naturally birth a large baby. 11 pounds (5 kg) is large. This can be demonstrated by an MRI scan, with a computer model of a baby passing through. The baby needs to fit. Alternately, show proof that there is no uterus.

An 11-pounder should seem possible. A 7-pounder should be about 100% reliable, easy as could be.

Without this capability, one is not really a grown women, no matter how old.

There is always the option to remove the uterus. Actually, cryosurgery to remove the lining should suffice. The point is that mothers and babies should never be put at risk due to physical immaturity of the mother.

Consider a 6-year-old girl, such as Muhammed's wife. Unless that is a really really weird 6-year-old, of strange maturity both mental and physical, something is not OK even if she says "yes". (of course we ought to allow for the strange cases, so testing is better than an arbitrary age number) Consider how in North Africa, girls get fistulas due to damage when giving birth. Their bodies are just too small.

Consider a 6-year-old boy. Does he really understand enough to be risking child support? It isn't OK to put him at risk of that if he doesn't understand, which would be the norm for a 6-year-old. Can he hold down a job that pays enough? Perhaps such a 6-year-old exists somewhere; such a weirdo deserves a chance but normal kids aren't ready.

Measurement is the only fair way to handle this.

The only reason Singaporeans are fascinated with Yee is that he criticized the regime and appears to have got away with it.
In reality he's like a teen-blogger version of Bobby Fischer, who made a habit of slagging all those who had helped him in his life (first the US, then Japan, and finally Iceland), though Fischer was actually famous for being the world's best at something.

If you want a more grown-up critique of Singapore, I'd recommend 'The Art of Charlie Chan Hock Chye' by Sonny Liew - an alternate history of Singapore done in comic-book form, which pulls no punches about Lee Kuan Yew. I'm amazed they published this in Singapore at all.
