Here in the U.S., the presidential election season, like Christmas, seems to start earlier and earlier each time.

In keeping with this, the Democratic National Committee is making waves by announcing that it will exclude Fox News, which has the largest viewership of the major cable news networks by a considerable margin, from debate coverage of DNC presidential candidates.

Thomas Lifson outlines a number of reasons this may not be a good move.

One is that from a historical and strategy perspective:

Presidential debates inevitably favor the challengers. Trump can push them in that direction by agreeing to debates only if Fox News is included. That forces them to either accept FNC or have no debates at all. If they accept, that makes FNC the debate worth watching. The rest are discredited as Democrat "safe spaces,"

And it appears he has pounced and done exactly that from his twitter account:

Democrats just blocked @FoxNews from holding a debate. Good, then I think I’ll do the same thing with the Fake News Networks and the Radical Left Democrats in the General Election debates!

Really all either party has to do is A) not be crazy and/or B) keep their idiot mouths shut to win.

Neither of these seems to be in the cards dealt to either side, so it should be a heck of a ride.

Isn't this pretty much the status quo? I remember outlets like CNN, MSNBC, and PBS hosting the Democratic debates.

I looked it up. In 2008, there was a debate [wikipedia.org] that lists "CNN, Fox News Channel, IPTV, MSNBC". All the rest were associated with a single network. In 2016, Fox News was going to host the 10th and final debate, but stuff happened [wikipedia.org]:

Despite previously agreeing to a tenth debate in the state of California, before the last day of primary elections, Hillary Clinton declined to participate. As a result of this, the debate was cancelled. Bernie Sanders called it insulting to the people of California, the largest primary state.

After it had been established that a California debate would not take place, Donald Trump offered a debate with Bernie Sanders ahead of the June 7th primary. The only condition for this debate was for the profits to be donated to a charity, which the candidates would agree on. Bernie Sanders accepted the offer; however, Donald Trump eventually declined to participate, stating there was no need to debate a candidate who would not win the Democratic nomination.

Right wing web site is critical of DNC for not holding primary debates on right wing cable network.

Fox News is the de facto propaganda arm of the RNC generally and Trump in particular, so why would they?

Why would they? Good question. But then, most of the rest of the media is the de facto propaganda wing of the DNC. So, why would any right winger consent to a debate hosted by any of them? Going back to TFA and TFS, Trump may well decline to participate in any debates. Which TFA and TFS notes, are generally of benefit to challengers, rather than to incumbents.

No, not really; they still promote war-mongering authoritarian propaganda. MSNBC is the propaganda arm of the DNC, and CNN has a massive neutrality bias where they pretend that two unequal positions are equal and debatable. Both have a right-wing slant, just less so than Fox News.

I read the text first - he does have some surprising ideas. And, it seems that a lot of Muslims want to kill him for those ideas. Why am I not surprised at that?

Tawhidi maintains that Aisha was actually 21 when Muhammad married her, but it was so important to Islam that Muhammad’s wife be a virgin that they reduced her to infancy to ensure that she could not be suspected of being unchaste. Islam holds virginity to be a much higher virtue, apparently, than refraining from pedophilia. What the Imam seems to have forgotten, is that Muhammad’s first wife (according to all the accepted records of his life such as they are) was a widow!

The video you mention seems to be the same video at the top of the page. Interview is 50:58 long, I don't think I want to listen to all of it. About 29;09 Tawhidi launches into his complaint about some Persian who lived 200 years after Mohammed, writing about Mohammed's sexual life, in detail. Hmmm. Maybe he has something there. We see much the same thing in Christianity, with all kinds of people explaining Jesus, despite the fact they lived hundreds of years after Jesus. Interesting.

If you want to win an election that you previously lost, here is how to do it: Thoughtfully and calmly engage voters of the opposite side on how your policies are better, and persuade them that switching their vote would be better for them and for the country. Proceed from the basis that they are intelligent and thoughtful people and together we can move the country forward.

OTOH, if you want to lose again, call them idiots/racist/redneck/losers/deplorable/re(Trump)tards and threaten to take their freedom of speech, guns, trucks and history. Yell at them, make fun of them, hound them, all the while wondering why they are not receptive to your way of thinking.

If Democrats want more votes, these votes will have to come from Republicans. And Democrats are behaving as if the last thing they want is more votes. They would rather vilify and denigrate those whose votes they so desperately need.

I will proudly state that I had planned to vote for Sanders had he been nominated. I will explain exactly why I stated and stood by my decision: I watched a lot of interviews of the candidates. There were ONLY two candidates that answered each and every question asked of them without deflecting to some totally unrelated bullshit answer; Bernie Sanders and Chris Christie. You may not agree 100% with what either had to say but they admitted their positions and answered directly every single time. At least you knew what to expect. Every single other candidate, without fail, would answer some question that only indirectly related to what they were asked.

I'm the AC above Runway referred to. With reference to "those afraid of change." It has nothing to do with that in my case -- it was the utter lack of change. What I realized with absolute crystal clarity during the Obama regime was that Democrats were just all talk -- I was watching GWB2.0 and Democrats said nothing, NPR said nothing. It was like the Democrat philosophy of public policy is: "If the GOP does X, it is evil -- if we do it, it is good because we have good intentions." To me, if X is evil, it is evil and the perpetrator is not a relevant factor. Then we got the primary and HRC's coronation -- I'm done. It will take far more than pretty words before I will vote Dem again. I'll just vote for 3d parties or turn in blank ballots.

Anyway, there is a new generation who have not yet personally experienced just how disingenuous the Democrats are -- people 14-18 when Obama's term ended for example. Perhaps they've helped to bump a few Dems into the house this season and they'll probably be around for a little while -- what you Democrats need to do is prevent them from paying attention to what you actually do with your power. Where you are going to lose them is when a Democrat wins, and becomes Trump2.0 but by then, you will probably have another load of gullible newbies to snow.
