Greene offers bill to abolish Section 230
Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-Ga.) on Thursday is introducing a bill to abolish Section 230 — the law the protects online platforms from liability — on the heels of Twitter accepting Elon Musk's offer to buy the company and take it private.
Greene's bill would eliminate the law making online platforms not liable for content posted by third parties and replace it with a provision to require "reasonable, non-discriminatory access to online communications platforms" through a "common carrier" framework that Greene compared to airlines or package delivery services.
Republicans have long claimed that social media platforms have an anti-conservative bias, pointing to tweets that have been taken down and the removal of entire feeds from networks.
[....] Titled the 21st Century FREE Speech Act, Greene's measure will serve as the House version of a Senate bill sponsored by Sen. Bill Hagerty (R-Tenn.).
To combat the alleged bias against conservatives, it would prevent online communications platforms from exerting "undue or unreasonable preference or advantage to any particular person, class of persons, political or religious group or affiliation, or locality" and would provide consumers a mechanism to sue for violations.
Should any platform be liable for someone else's speech? Even if they engage in moderation?

Capitalism is working out fine for me personally.
We can make things nicer for the stupid idiot proles. Allocating the military budget instead to "medicaid for all" including mental health services would help. MDC might still be with us, and imagine if APK could get mental health treatment to deal with his childhood sexual assault trauma. We also need better public schools.

this is what republicans always do. they do the same thing with gun laws. they pass a bill called the "free speech act" or the "2a 4 life act" and then remove protections for user content (wrapped in language about not discriminating against cuckservatives) or add the "ability to get handgun permits" thus making a constitutionally protected right a privilege that can then be legislated against. They will get rid of 230 to protect cuckservatives and then legislate against what is "reasonable moderation" until you can't warn your fellow citizen or mount a collective defense about anything. That is the whole point of this, but brainwashed boomer cuckservatives will champion it.

The funny thing about Disney is that the crazy branch of my family was already boycotting Disney for being too far to the left on inclusiveness. And they have never faltered on that boycott at all, especially if you don't count buying all that Minnie Mouse and Frozen crap for their kids and actually going to Disney World.
