  • Don't complain about lack of options. You've got to pick a few when you do multiple choice. Those are the breaks.
  • Feel free to suggest poll ideas if you're feeling creative. I'd strongly suggest reading the past polls first.
  • This whole thing is wildly inaccurate. Rounding errors, ballot stuffers, dynamic IPs, firewalls. If you're using these numbers to do anything important, you're insane.

I love Pipedot. Maybe if more people bothered to comment there, they might be motivated to post stories a bit more often. I still check it every few months or so.

        That's interesting.

If the other two sites self destruct or start a new "beta" fiasco,

Why don't we gamma? I guess we could omega, instead, but that's probably less fun than gamma.

Good on em. I'd prefer they were active still but even being willing to reactivate is good to keep us honest.

I'd like to say anyone who wants to could just fork either project but rehash isn't currently in a state that installs are anything but very painful. After I get that solved, I'm seriously considering dropping Apache and mod_perl entirely and going with a perl application server (so the vast majority of the code can remain the same) fronted by nginx, because mod_perl has become extremely unsupported over the past decade (no updates in the past two years or so with known outstanding issues) and nothing else Apache has can get the performance out of perl we demand.

SN is, to me, a basic news source. I'm here dailyish, depending on when the daily mailers catch my eye. Quite often because I want to see what various folks have to say about whatever, cuz they ensure a perspective different from the article.

I like both daily mailer formats; both are useful. In the long format, tho, it would be a lot more useful if the email had internal links, so I could hop down to the full story instead of having to scroll-and-search.

BTW they used to come together, but for some time now the long format has arrived first, and now it's coming several hours before the short format email. This is kinda annoying, given both are useful but in synergistic ways, so I prefer having 'em arrive together so I can conveniently hop from one to the other without the bother of filtering or hunting for the laggard.

I'm here most of the workday. I check in when I'm waiting for things (just waiting for a call back from a field tech now), or when I don't have anything to do, or I don't want to do the things I should be doing.

On the weekends and weeknights I'm usually too busy to check in frequently. On weekends I'll usually check in once or twice over the entire weekend. Weeknights I rarely check in.

This place is mostly a pleasant work distraction for me.
