On March 15, Advance Media New York reported [newyorkupstate.com]

This was a storm for the ages.

Snowfall totals [archive.li] [archive] exceeded forecasts, sometimes by a lot. The highest total in Upstate New York state as of this morning was 42 inches, in the Herkimer County town of West Winfield.

More than 50 places Upstate hit at least 30 inches. Binghamton [newyorkupstate.com] set a 24-hour snowfall record. Syracuse had 21.6 inches and Albany had 21.

Some areas of Western and Central New York could pick up a few inches today as lake effect snow [wikipedia.org] pulled in by the departing nor'easter falls.

You can search the list [caspio.com] [...] by location or county to see how much fell [in various locations].

The Weather Channel has called the event "Winter Storm Stella". Normally, it is NOAA, the National Oceanographic and Atmospheric Administration, which names storms--and then only tropical storms.

Several places got record-breaking [google.com] snowfall [google.com].

Note that this is despite record warm temperatures this winter. It is known that increased atmospheric moisture [google.com] due to global warming can increase the frequency and intensity of storms--even snowstorms [motherjones.com].
