James Damore has confirmed [reddit.com] that a person leaking details about his Google troubles [reddit.com] knows previously non-public information, lending credibility to the report. The previously non-public information that James Damore could confirm includes:
- the head of Memegen is an "ally" to the diversity cause
- gave every manager talking points on what to tell their reports about the memo
- our spying probably made his devices unusably slow, preventing him from organizing support within the company
Other details revealed include:
- Google needed to make an example of Damore, finding an excuse to fire him
- He was a top performer who knew too many secrets, like Dragonfly, the secret censored search product in China
- He had reported legally dubious practices in Search that still exist
- Google's influence over journalists (ads pay paycheck) was used to plant biased stories
- Google wrote the NLRB memo and supplied it to a sympathetic lawyer in that agency
- The memo was later mischaracterized as a ruling that the firing was legal.
