Do cameras in our streets and public areas make our society safer? How about on our oceans? The Galapagos islands is a marine reserve which has a number of species that form a balanced ecosystem supporting the local area. Over fishing and pollution has driven China to reach further afield for its catches even going into the territories of other countries. In September 2020 Oceana recorded evidence of over 300 vessels fishing for 73000 hours total time worth of fishing around the Galapagos Marine Reserve [oceana.org]. This is part of the recent actions by China to capture and claim areas of the sea for food and resources [news.com.au] even though a Permanent Court of Arbitration in 2016 passed a ruling that China's current territory claims have no historical basis. Meanwhile, improved technology allows for better tracking of marine vessels even when they try to hide their presence. The problem is that detection is not enough; once an area is over fished it is too late.

Will the next World War be able food or energy?
