The company Hasbro, owner of the trademark and popular board game called “Monopoly”, loses EU legal battle in order to exclusively use that brand.

By the new decision, Hasbro lost the monopoly to use the trademark ‘Monopoly’ to use it as in board game partially invalidated after the EU General Court found its filing strategy was designed to avoid proving genuine use.

The judgment issued past Wednesday, April 21, comes after a lawsuit filed by Croatian board game seller Kreativni Događaji, which sought the invalidation of an EU ‘Monopoly’ trademark registered in 2011.
