Linux user. Tries to keep feeding the brain with stuff. Husband and father of a young lady and a younger son who has autism/is autistic... that nut didn't fall far from this nut-tree, I'll tell ya: he gets it honestly. Now if only he'd sleep..............

I believe that God gave us the science, curiousity and intelligence to one day conclusively prove that God does not exist.

Just resubscribed because things are so much better here, now.

Thanks @Janrinok(sp?) and all involved for all your hard work and for making Soylentnews more edible (see what i did there!?.... yeah, i have no life.)

In other news, my wife, son and I were going to head out to western Canada for a 3 week vacation: Got one days travel out, stopped at a hotel and tried to get my son to sleep. He just wouldn't and got really angry (he is non-verbal). While we tried to figure out what was going on, my wife noticed him hiding/protecting his thumb. His thumb was infected and inflamed.

Do we continue out west while trying to deal with lancing his thumb and soaking it in warm water and epsom salts and maybe having to get him antibiotics, or do we just go home again and deal with it there?

We went home and are dealing with it now: finally had to get him antibiotics.

Thinking maybe we'll do a trip to Santa's village and then go to Niagara Falls for a few days.

Another year of STAYCATION! Woooo!.................YEAH!

yeah

yeah.

I mean, just getting out of your home town is more than a staycation. Statycation is when you stay home, do some lawn work, etc. My parents are looking at going someplace for their anniversary next year (40ish, 50ish, I forget, yes I am bad at that kind of stuff), and they were looking at possibly going to Niagara Falls. There's some nice places there. We like going to the beach, but we don't have a 1,000 mile drive to get to one, either. Whereas a trip to Niagara Falls would essentially be that for us. Whatever you do, I hope you get a chance to de-stress and have fun!

After 3 years of staycation, i was looking forward to 3 weeks completely away from home, so just going away somewhat locally isn't what i needed.

Yes, better than nothing, but i just hope it is enough to de-stress me. At work, i was burning out greatly until new management came in ("a change is as good as a rest"): now, i'm better, but still not 'great'. I was REALLY looking forward to this.

Now, it's mostly staying at home and doing the usual, with just day trips: we'll only be not on staycation for about 4-5 days.

Coping is not de-stressing... really need a VACATION. :(

I love Niagara Falls and cured myself of a fear of heights on the big ferris wheel there (never had a fear of heights until i started dreaming of leaning over a cliff and falling off... would wake up, then fall asleep to that dream again, over and over. Since the ferris wheel, i've been good).

Good you're making the best of things, and I hope you get a real vacation soon!

I eventually figured out I don't have a fear of heights, but a fear of falling. Heights are great as long as I'm confident. Some structures don't give me great confidence, so my palms sweat.

Any idea what started your son's thumb infection?

Probably an in-grown thumbnail that he picked at and picked at until it was an open wound: he's not the most hygienic person and that led to infection.

We didn't notice because it's his non-primary hand and he just had his thumb hidden/protected by wrapping his fingers around it.

Now we're having to do a constant body check on him like Thomas the Unbeliever (?), Thomas Covenant with his leprosy checks.

Gaark, Thank you for the kind words. They are much appreciated.

The next big task is to start rebuilding the community.

Also, and much more importantly, I hope your son's thumb gets better soon and you have a chance to take a family break and relax a little. It has been a difficult couple of years for everyone.

Correct. When aristarchus died as a Soylentil after janrinok lynched him, Soylent News also died. A Soylentil was killed to protect a racist traitor. And now I shall address the traitor.

Runaway, are you involved in laundering of international funds to support fascism, but locally and on the international scale? One of the principles of the foundering Republicans. SN does have a core contingent of traitors hell bent on overthrowing democracy because they believe baseless lies from a blatant lying criminal. And not just your ordinary criminal, this one is like the bingo hall master of crime. Republicans like you became fascists and from all appearances seem completely unaware of the change.

And, we are calling it treason, so it did not prosper, because stupid can never win, because if it did, it wouldn't know that it had.

Brits like janrinok committed treason, too! SoylentNews was the censorship of a Soylentil, one who has been with us from the beginning, a Buck Feta of the old Skool, our dear aristarchus. After this, there is only death, darkness, janrinok, and FatAssPhil. Martyb was not able to save us. It is all Runaway Shit, from now on. What the traitors need is a FatPhil, and a janrinok, to be able to identify the ACs posting while they are supposed to be working. You know who they are!

SoylentNews is dead, RIP! Adieu, mon Freres!
