When Harry Potter first started to become popular, I seem to remember a church minister in Inverness warning parents not to let their children read Harry Potter because it was "Devil worship" or some such nonsense. Yes, there are grown adults who actually believe that. Some years previously another church minister in Scotland had said that Yoga was "Devil worship."

It's quite possible, it runs similar to C.S. Lewis's "Chronicles of Narnia" series, but one major difference is that the heroes/heroines weren't wizards/witches. While, there was definitely magic in the Chronicles of Narnia, the children weren't the ones wielding said power. In great contrast to Harry Potter, where the main child hero and his friends are all witches/wizards in training.

Depends on the type of "evil" you're talking about.
If you're talking about the "evil" in Man's heart that makes them rob and kill anyone they think they can get away with it, there is no stopping that type of "evil" as long as Man walks the Earth.
If you're talking about the "evil" as defined in religion, that manifests itself in what is commonly portrayed as the Devil, that is allowed to exist by the delusions of those suffering the effects of religion.

They're late to the party. Over in Michigan's Calvinist no-go zone (Holland-Grand Rapids area), Zeeland's school banned the book back when there was just Sorcerer's Stone, before it was a series. Decided to give it a read after that happened. Never did read the others though.
I can also verify that yes, these people really are that damned stupid, delusional, and frankly insane. They have a tenuous grasp on reality at best. They actively choose to live in a demon-haunted world. They believe that demons literally exist.
