I have a numeric Karma again! (and it's zero) How long has slashdot been hiding the karma value? Is the codebase really that old or is it just configured to show Karma as a number?
I kind of miss D2 now that I'm using the original discussion format again. Hopefully in-place comment expansion is on the table to add back in (ZOMG Javascript!)

I had not experienced the original system before this point and feel somewhat spoiled by D2 now. For now I'm just enjoying the experience of this transition.

I don't have experience in the slash codebase, but from what I'm told (and I'm in contact with the lead developer for several hours a day) the codebase is frankly pretty deprecated. There are a lot of changes that need to be made over time. For now, though, the best way to improve your karma score is to participate in the community. Post meaningful comments, submit articles that are of interest to the community, etc. Play a part in this exciting experiment and reap the benefits of it! Thanks for reading. ~mattie_p

To see your /. karma is pretty much the same as seeing your S karma: go to your achievements page. Mine's 33 here, PDQ if you ask me, at /. it's only 46 and I've been there since the last century (granted, I posted little at first, then lost my password and registered as sm62704 for a couple of years until I got my old ID back in 2008). So I guess six years really, especially since they only started the "achievements" thing in IIRC 2006.
If you want more karma, post some journals, submit some good stories, make some insightful comments.
