How about Democrats and Republicans compromise:

Democrats will disband the Disinformation Governance Board, which was intended to inform the Department of Homeland Security about foreign efforts to spread disinformation in the US.

In return, Republicans will stop spreading disinformation, including the following:
    1) 2020 election denial
    2) Anti-vaxxer fear mongering
    3) Qanon conspiracy theories
    4) Jewish space lasers
    5) Other related nonsense

I guess I'm not the target audience for this, not being a republican (no, nor a democrat). But it sounds good to me! In fact, why don't republicans add some sweeteners to the deal, requiring democrats to keep their mouths shut on a laundry list of topics. Hm, how about ...

      1) Institutional racism/sexism/anything DEI-related
      2) Firearms
      3) Trans ... well, trans-anything really
      4) Global warming
      5) Other related nonsense

This will be awesome. We'll improve discourse nationwide at a stroke! Of course, it might be some of the politicians having the strokes, but here we are. And to make sure that we're super-equitable about this, we'll set it up so that if any politician on either side breaks these strictures, the strictures on the other side fall away. I give it five seconds, what do you think? (The five seconds being the time it takes them to draw breath. Politicians do breathe, right?)

We have a clever one here. He's exploiting a loophole in the wording of the grandparent post. If he denies that he's a Republican, he'll get to keep spreading disinformation.

There are interesting implications if people like the parent can't call themselves Republicans. They might even take the opportunity to throw people off by hiding some truth within their disinformation. Just to confuse people, they'll tell the truth by labeling themselves reactionaries or right-wing extremists.

The USA was once planning space lasers to destroy incoming missiles.
It took a while for them to get around to cancelling the program, because
            (1) it would not work reliably, and
            (2) it would encourage the opposition to attack with far more missiles than otherwise, hoping to get a few through.

But the project did support some interesting work on formal proof checking and software verification.

If Secret Jewish Space Lasers had started the California wild fires, I think that would have created a major international incident.

However this conspiracy theory outright lie, like so many other outright lies, were made up by someone out of thin air and then spread like California wild fires (pun intended). Such as the LIE in my journal article No longer tethered to reality. [soylentnews.org] In this example, The National Butterfly Center, along the U.S.-Mexico border is falsely accused of human trafficking. Because that fans the flames of wild loony conspiracy theorists. As a result of crazy nutjob yea-hoos they had to shut down. I remember you questioning if there was any proof that they WERE NOT involved in human trafficking. Guilty until proven innocent. All because Tucker Carlson said so.

So pardon me if I am inclined to believe that the California wild fires were not started by Secret Jewish Space Lasers. Especially since this conspiracy theory appears to have, as usual, not a shred of proof. Like the stolen election nonsense. The actual reasons for the wild fires, as they were stated, are just too down to earth boring.
