So, I know you all have read the moderator guidelines and remember the very important "Concentrate more on promoting than on demoting." bit, yes? Well, I went looking for who the worst offenders were against that out of curiousity. I'm not sure it's really proper to shame them here though. You lot can leave your opinions on that here and us staff types will discuss it later.

What I absolutely can and will post are the badasses who have most excellent ratios of upmods to downmods. Without further ado, here's everyone with over a thousand upmods to their credit and a downmod percentage of less than 10%.

Yep, there are always plenty of folks willing to downmod at the drop of a hat; why should I waste my mod points emulating them??

My rare downmods are reserved for the most wrongspirited personal attacks and one particular flavor of egregious horseshit. If I wasted 'em on "Disagree: I'd do nothing else.

I do find it ...inbteresting... that only a tiny percentage of users have a ratio better than 1:10. What percentage of regular modders do we come to?

Well, only like 1/3 of registered users have used their mod points at all. Of the people with over a thousand upmods or downmods under their belt, yall make up 67.14%. Makes me pretty happy about the state of the folks who moderate regularly around here.

Side note, I didn't even make the list, good or bad; I don't moderate enough.

Getting injured doing the same thing I've done a hundred times aside, it's the easiest way to move that boat around. The tongue weight is less than 50lbs and the rest of it is light enough to push all around the yard and driveway if necessary. I have no idea if I tried to turn instead of lifting straight up or used more back than I normally do or just slept wrong the night before and weakened that muscle. Bet you I lift straight up with my legs next time though.

I was hoping the list would have more entries, since I'm curious what my ratio of up/down mods is. Usually the named posters get plenty of upmods on their own, so I tend to save a few points in case I see ACs making good comments, or to downmod spam/troll shit that contributes nothing. Means I often leave points unused, though.

Actually, that would be an interesting statistic, too: how many people upvote ACs, and how much? It could give an idea how many users read at a 0 threshold.

Nice. I expected I'd be around/slightly under 15%, so that's a bit better than I'd guessed. I'd probably have made it under 10% if I hadn't been modding down aristarchus' incoherent and frequently off-topic ramblings for a while. lol. I stopped when his posts started getting slightly more on-topic and/or readable, though. (Or maybe I just started understanding them better, but that's a scary thought and I refuse to entertain it further.)

Thanks for both responses. I'm actually surprised so many read at 0 and -1, there's usually a lot of talk about ignoring ACs and browsing at +1 that made it seem like the low-threshold readers would be less common. I like doing -1 with 0 breakthrough so that the -1s are collapsed. Lets me auto-hide a few people's comments, and it's easy to expand to see if other things really belong there.

Finally, random thought/question I just had: how hard would it be to add user-specific RSS feeds linked to the notification system? I check headlines by RSS, so I sometimes go days between visiting the site directly, depending on what comes up, which means I can go days without seeing the notifications about replies to me. So what I'm thinking is that being able to opt-into SN generating an RSS feed with a unique identifier (UUID or something similar) would be awesome. If you've messed with Reddit any, they do something like that and it's really convenient.

Don't know how popular a feature it would be for others, since RSS lost a lot of its visibility after google killed off its reader service, but I try to use it whenever I can. Less load on the sites usually, plus time wasted, if I'm only loading the sites when there's something new to see. Still, SN isn't a typical crowd so maybe there'd be more interest here than most places.

Eh, it depends on how you have your notifications set up. It's be pretty damned hard if you're set to get them via email because we don't keep record of them after they're sent out. It shouldn't be too difficult to set up a dynamic rss feed with your messages in it if you're set to Web though. Your feed reader would need to log in, of course, to keep world+dog from reading your messages but the rest of it shouldn't be terribly difficult.
