It's started, and we'll see how the record labels handle it this time.

Also, there's this.

Should be an interesting couple-few years ahead.

I am still looking for some AI able to handle and produce MIDI files in large volumes.

I tried various ways to get ChatGPT to create a MIDI file, but it was unable to do so. Could have been interesting. Doesn't mean it can't be done, just no one with the skills has the interest and/or is trying to monetize it or something.

Not a MIDI producer, but somebody made a tool to produce sound [riffusion.com] using Stable Diffusion. Kinda nifty, and could be used in a MIDI-creating pipeline. Since they're just converting the sound to an image and back, you could probably find or make a tool to render midi files to pictures and back, putting SD in the middle.

I'd like to know where the crazy copyright claims come from. Certainly not from the written copyright law. For example, Fake Drake. It wasn't written by Drake, and it wasn't performed by Drake. Drake didn't pay for it to be created, so Drake has no copyright interest in it. His label had nothing to do with it either, so they have no interest in it.

There may be some sort of 'personality rights' that would cover using someone else's voice, but it's not copyright and is completely uncharted legal waters as far as I know.

I will say that Cobain's vocal style wasn't really well captured in that example.

And of course, as Rick pointed out in his video, that still leaves completely invented voices/personalities up in the air.

In many ways the whole industry has itself to blame. I hear so many fake sounding voices due to being polished up and auto-tuned to death that the average listener may really not be able to tell the difference between that and a wholly artificial voice. As for the writing, ChatGPT and the like can certainly churn out the patter but it doesn't seem all that creative other than the occasional 'accidental profundity' such as might be uttered by a chattering child, someone who is mostly asleep, stoned out of their gourd, or mentally ill. Come to think of it, that might explain more than one existing song lyric as well.

I understand the screenwriter's concerns, not because I thing ChatGPT can really do a proper job but because studio execs are not all known for caring if it's any good as long as it can sell soap.

Fliptop has said he used to work in radio. What we can surmise from his posts and submissions it that it was right wing radio, most likely AM. Not that there is anything wrong with that, other than it was disinformation and lies, along the lines of Rush Limbaugh and Tucker Carlson. But I would suggest to all soylentils, that they take any of his submissions with a grain of salt. Or two.

No surprise, last journals were Roald Dahl Going Woke, and Pat Buchanan retires. Rightwing nutter confirmed, sad that so many Republicans fell for blatant hate fueled lies of Limbaugh and others.

Had a friend try dating a conservative, she thought it could work out since he acknowledged that his conservative parents plus listening to Limbaugh made him more rightwing than he consciously cared for, but then he'd get drunk sometimes and rage at her over all the issues that talk radio assholes blamed liberals for. Astoundingly unhealthy and shows the lies had a profound emotional affect that is not easily overcome.

You're neglecting Bayesian priors here. Not all opinions are worth the same, and for well over 50 years Republicans and other self-styles "conservatives" have largely been wrong, and very often wrong in ways that cause real, serious harm to other human beings. It is not unreasonable to discount their opinions on subjects we know the general party line on.
