Because without tapes, this shit ain't gonna fly. It's just another TV show to compete with Brexit for ratings.

In Watergate, we had tapes, not just bullshit "testimony". And people were caught in the act, by real policemen. So far all we have are a bunch of blabbermouths. I certainly hope there is something real to hang 'em with, but the ineptitude is so overwhelming, and given history of the Party, it's not just rope-a-dope.

And this "whistleblower"? please! Goddamn cops tell us, "If you see something, SAY something!" So what's up, ya bastard? If you have solid proof, out with it, pronto! You hear about real heroes falling on the grenade, now it's your turn.

Eh, like I said in ol' boy's journal, the dems will tread lightly, or collateral damage will be severe in discovery. Actually, probably not. People just don't care how crooked they are anymore. As long as their guy wins... That rule applies equally to both sides of the imaginary line.

*sigh* All this bullshit and the republican/democrat party will still receive 95% of the vote next year, and of course the pissing and moaning will never cease.

And a shout out to the morons (no offense to morons) who want to believe I advocate not voting! Love you all!

:-) I had to add to the funny mod. You truly are sometimes. The naivete and denial is quite the spectacle, if for nothing more than its antiquity in the face of human "progress" in the "information age".

Eh whatever. In your world it might not be true any more, but the last I heard is that actual evidence is still required in a real trial. Hope you got some because you all are still just embarrassing yourselves.

I expected better. Aimed too high, I guess.

I should be a bit more specific. The "information age" began with the telegraph, or maybe even the printing press, not the blinky, flashy internet, which maybe ended the information age and went into the advertising age, a process that started with radio and TV. Your "news" is a commercial. The other ads are there to remind you to take a bath and brush your teeth and look presentable when the police knock your door down.

Except impeachment isn't a trial in the Article III [wikipedia.org] court sense.

What's more, the House of Representatives role in impeachment is one of *investigation and (if warranted) creation of articles of impeachment*. That's the equivalent in US-based (Federal and state) court systems of a prosecutor obtaining an indictment. However, as I mentioned, the impeachment process is *not* an Article III court.

Are you arguing that Congress should not exercise its oversight role? Are you arguing that (for whatever reason), Congress should allow the Executive Branch to do whatever it wants, with no oversight or check?

While impeachment has some similarities with the Article III process, it is not that. It is inherently a *political* as well as legal mechanism. As such, there are risks to both sides when moving forward.

You're once again showing your ignorance of the constitution.

No, so far they are sorely lacking. They are only protecting themselves from exposure. This is why I am convinced they are not serious. We need proof. Without it this is a totally bogus clown show.

This is my whole point since the beginning. This is why we have this most delicate, very tribal dance. A culture show for the tourists. Discovery blows it all wide open. This can go nowhere. Real evidence will implicate everybody in the business. That's why Epstein had to die. Other threats will share the same fate.

The only workable remedy is to vote them out. All of them. 95% reelection rates only make the whiners look like shit, and makes the tyrants look good.

Post something from an actual expert and maybe you've got something:

It’s not clear where the post first originated, who wrote it, and whether “Hyram F. Suddfluffel” even exists or has a doctorate in political science. We discovered multiple versions of the “impeachment backfire” text, the earliest being in a June 3 post on the right-leaning political forum Free Republic. There, a user with the handle “lonster” outlined the theory, saying it had been “passed on by an old friend”:
                  [...]
In some versions, no author is named. In others, especially those submitted by Snopes readers in September, the author is claimed to be “Hyram F. Suddfluffel, PhD.” In still others, the author is given as “Gary Knoepke.”
                  [...]
Perhaps the most important claim made in the post, and the one that has arguably caused it to be gleefully shared by supporters of the president, is that which relates to the ability of Trump’s lawyers to subpoena and interrogate some of their client’s perceived foes: “The President’s attorneys will have the right to subpoena and question anyone they want.”
                  [...]
It’s not specified in the Senate impeachment “Rules of Procedure,” but the rules of federal criminal procedure state that anyone issued a subpoena as part of a criminal trial (on which Congressional impeachment is loosely modeled) can apply to the court to have the subpoena quashed.

They can do this on several grounds, including on the basis that the subpoena is “unreasonable or oppressive.” Multiple federal court precedents have held that the evidence and testimony requested under subpoena, in criminal trials, must be relevant to the case at hand, and cannot amount to a “fishing expedition.”

For the record, I didn't go looking on Snopes for this. It was just the first search result for "Hyram F. Suddfluffel"

                          1. Biden (et al... and he was hardly the first author of this act) committed treason/sedition
                          2. Trump was bound to investigate it

Reality Check: Could Impeachment Actually Help Trump’s Approval Ratings?
MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) — President Donald Trump has condemned the Democratic impeachment hearings against him, calling them a “witch hunt.” But Trump also says impeachment could help him win a second term. Is that possible?

Only two U.S. Presidents have actually been impeached: Andrew Johnson and Bill Clinton. Neither one of them was removed from office. (Richard Nixon resigned before the U.S. House could vote to impeach him.)

Trump says the polls were wrong before, and Democrats want to impeach him now because he’s so popular.

As Al Green said, "I'm concerned that if we dont' impeach this president, he will get reelected!!"

No. I understood perfectly. You took a potshot at whatever group to which you "think" (almost certainly wrongly) I belong.

I was just attempting to goad you into revealing the "group" you're attempting to negatively paint with a broad brush.

Your rhetorical skills are poor and your knowledge of history, government and public affairs is abysmal.

The "support more and diverse voices" tack you take is a good one. In fact, I'm all in favor of that. We need more diverse voices, a wider variety of choices and ideas.

However, your representation that every individual who doesn't believe *exactly as you do* (to wit: every elected or appointed official is inherently corrupt and evil simply because they hold the position they hold. This is absurd on its face) is either corrupt, stupid or evil shows your ignorance and intolerance.

Tearing it all down will leave us much, much worse off. Working together to fix what's broken (public financing of elections would be a good start, and there's a raft of other things we can do, too) is a better solution thantilting at windmills and calling everyone evil and corrupt.

While she's not my personal favorite candidate (I'm sure you'd be surprised who is), I think poking the bankers in the eye by nominating/electing Elizabeth Warren would be a shot across the bow at those who want to control the political system with their filthy lucre. And that goes on both sides.

If you were better informed and a better communicator perhaps you'd understand that. I'm not holding my breath.

It is another nothingburger distraction from what is going on with the federal reserve bailing out the banks again, that is why it makes no sense to normal people. All republicrats want your eyes off that. Amazingly some of the most partisan idiots are eating it up still.

400 bil for the repo market, I hear. They need the money fast for the drug buy of the year

I had to go watch the movie [rogerebert.com] to figure out what they were talking about.

The real news is always on the back pages.

corrupting the Democratic foundation of our nation is more important.

Ok, let's start with the DNC. So far they are still untouchable.

The only people with legitimate complaints are those that vote for or ran as independents and other parties. Republicans and democrats can go fuck themselves.

Oh please! You do anything to avoid looking in the mirror.

What about the canceled primaries? They won't bring in any more money. In fact it would be a waste. If the republican voters don't like it, they can vote for something else. Watch what would happen if they flex their muscle. Damn democrats could do the same and show some strength for a change. That would definitely win votes. Your hysteria won't. You're just deflecting. Look in the mirror. Your tribalism is just as extreme. *Vote Blue no matter who*.

There are over 3,700 hours of taped conversations, with only 3000, or so, available publicly. In addition, only five percent of the recordings have been transcribed and less than 15% have been listened too at all (partly because lots of people listen to conversations with the same players).
