Re: Infrastructure bill(s)

Q Mr. President, you said you want both of these measures to come to you “in tandem.” Did you receive any assurances that that would happen? And how do you anticipate — what will you do if —

THE PRESIDENT: I control that.

Q — they don’t get to you in time?

THE PRESIDENT: If they don’t come, I’m not signing. Real simple.

So, but I expect — I expect that in the — the coming months this summer, before the count — the fiscal year is over, that we will have voted on this bill, as well — the infrastructure bill — as well as voted on the budget record [sic] — resolution.

And that’s when they’ll — but if only one comes to me, I’m not — and if this is the only thing that comes to me, I’m not signing it. It’s in tandem.

Q Mr. President, do you support, then, Speaker Pelosi’s stated plan to hold the bipartisan deal in the House until the Senate also passes reconciliation? Do you support that sequencing on her part?

THE PRESIDENT: Yes.

Q But, Mr. President, your own party is not on the same page about the reconciliation package. So, by moving forward with this two-track system, are you putting the bipartisan bill in jeopardy?

But whatever it is*, it still totally depends on Manchin/Sinema

*Thank goodness for transcripts. I can't imagine having to listen to that

UPDATE:

No, wait

"My comments also created the impression that I was issuing a veto threat on the very plan I had just agreed to, which was certainly not my intent,"

*I just lost my mind for a moment*

It turns out that building a coalition is hardest at the fringes.

Yup, Machin and Sinema are in the democratic party's big tent, but not by much. And keeping them inside requires some fancy footwork in the management of the tent's guylines.

Why aren't you asking instead: "Yo, dems, dudes, how about trying to pass something that doesn't have to squeak through with the barest of margins, so that you can actually achieve some of what you want?" because we know that Manchin and Sinema aren't interested in blood loyalty oaths - they're interested in being elected by their states, which aren't in lockstep with the party goals.

To put it another way, the power to decide what gets put to the house and senate doesn't rest with Manchin or Sinema. It rests elsewhere, with people like Pelosi and Schumer. Blame them for trying to pass one marginal turkey after another.

Democrats swallowed quite a few poison-pills to get rid of Trump. They're going to be choking on their own vomit for a good 2 election cycles, at least. Maybe more than that if swing states manage to unfuck their voting situations. Sinema may be a loon but she's not stupid, she knows her audience (and particularly that very sizable portion of her audience that's suspicious of one of the Reddest states flipping Blue in a suspicious election.

Speaking of suspicious Arizona elections, why haven't we heard anything from the Jew Kelly? It's like he disappeared from the face of the Earth the second he was elected. Kinda suspicious.

She seems to be a narcissist, one that is holding the line and I feel for those who can't appreciate it. Strong woman right there and good on her.

For fusty's detractors. This also gives some insight into the CWI split that formed the ISA, of which the American section Socialist Alternative now seems to be getting cozy with the nationalist "socialists" of DSA and the Democratic Party.

This analysis is about a UK election, but same applies to why the Democratic Party can't win elections. They're doing it wrong, and I think this article is clear about why the approach taken by Labour in the UK (and where applicable the Democratic Party) is wrong.
