Here is a submission that didn't get picked up that looked interesting. Seen on Mastodon is a bot account that mirrors slashdot Twitter tweets:

hellcat writes:

Joined mastadon about a month ago, and enjoying it. @stegasaurus@home.social

This bot came across my federated feed: @slashdot@geeknews.chat

The heading on the account reads:

..... I'm a bot that mirrors a Twitter's account. Any issues please contact @jeroen

Simple and easy.
Maybe soylent can think about using the fediverse in a similar, or even better way?

Okay, maybe not most, but certainly the vast majority of the early adopters were. Suggesting that we "be like" that stupid place that was abandoned. Isn't necessarily a great suggestion. Also, Musk could turn Twitter off and write the whole experience off as a tax credit and the world would be a better place.

The point I thought was interesting was the idea of getting a presence in the Fediverse with a Mastodon bot that posts off of the RSS feed like the one someone set up for Twitter.

You really just want another place for shitposting that has greater visibility than journals. You're not genuinely interested in free speech or opposing the alt-right. You've posted just one article actually criticizing the alt-right in a period of time exceeding the past year. When janrinok argues with Runaway, he actually exposes Runaway's hypocrisy and absurd beliefs. You just post absurd personal attacks and start doxxing Runaway. Even before your aristarchus account got banned, you were constantly spamming articles and trying to deflect the discussions so they were off-topic.

You had many opportunities to reform your behavior. You complain that you think Runaway isn't held accountable the way you were. But when you both were penalized for using sock puppets to moderate comments, you were treated identically. The difference is that you refused to admit to your misdeeds, let alone reform your behavior, instead escalating your spamming and trolling on IRC. When I spam modded one of your comments from your aristarchus account, that was just an excuse for you to spam even more, throw a massive temper tantrum, and behave in an even more disingenuous manner.

Slashdot has its share of spammers to harass users like rsilvergun and creimer. The spammers create imposter accounts to use for trolling and harassment. You've done exactly the same thing here. I agree with the others in this article who would prefer to not bring the worst of Slashdot here. You represent some of the worst of Slashdot.

I've considered posting more journals recently about motorsports, whether about the Daytona 500 and early season NASCAR races, the upcoming Formula 1 and Indycar seasons, or perhaps the 12 Hours of Sebring IMSA race next month. I appreciate that there are other motorsports fans here, and I'd enjoy their thoughts. I've also thought about posting more Star Trek journals. Unfortunately, you would probably use those journals for more spam, just like you've done here. I'm not going to give you the opportunity.

Perhaps I'll be criticized for saying this, and I haven't shared it previously, but I am Roman Catholic. That means I observe the practices of Lent, including giving things up during the season. Some of the comments here, particularly your horrendously bad behavior, often brings out the worst in me and in the comments I post. I've decided that I'll read the articles here and Slashdot at most once per day during Lent, but I'll refrain from reading comments and posting anything. I'll stay logged out and avoid people like you who are here only to disrupt discussions and harass people. I'll miss some of the discussions about technology and the opportunity to discuss motorsports. I certainly won't miss your spam. I can only hope that by that time, either you will have decided to grow up and stop spamming, or that the admins of this site will have shut down logged-out AC posting everywhere.

To everyone else, I'll see you on or shortly after April 9. It'll probably be after April 9 because I'll be watching the Bristol dirt race that day. :-) Please don't let this place turn into the worst of Slashdot. Live long and prosper.

The aim of a troll is to destroy a site, or, more precisely, the community around a site. The first sentence of a post generally identifies it as either a shitpost, or not.

There are 3 main racing tracks in my country (Spa, Zolder, and Francorchamps). We also have a limited number of races on ordinary roads -- quite spectacular, and with serious risks involved. Yet we do not -- for reasons I cannot fathom -- have anything like NASCAR racing though that really looks exciting. I'd like a couple of diary entries on that, if you find time.

That is exactly what gets me about all this. So many of the actions they have taken seem to be giving him exactly what he wants when you keep that fact in mind. I understand that they are limited in what they can do due to software constraints but I sometimes wonder why their choice is to enact exactly what they desire. Nothing will feed the troll more than that.

And if you want real excitement in racing, nothing is better IMHO than rallying. Some of those open divisions are a true sight to behold.

For this question, we should according to the Doctor Angelicus, consult The Philosopher, himself [cambridge.org].

That trolling is a shameful thing, and that no one of sense would accept to be called ‘troll’, all are agreed; but what trolling is, and how many its species are, and whether there is an excellence of the troll, is unclear. And indeed trolling is said in many ways; for some call ‘troll’ anyone who is abusive on the internet, but this is only the disagreeable person, or in newspaper comments the angry old man. And the one who disagrees loudly on the blog on each occasion is a lover of controversy, or an attention-seeker. And none of these is the troll, or perhaps some are of a mixed type; for there is no art in what they do. (Whether it is possible to troll one's own blog is unclear; for the one who poses divisive questions seems only to seek controversy, and to do so openly; and this is not trolling but rather a kind of clickbait.)

Yes, but that is not what is going on here!

Well then, the troll in the proper sense is one who speaks to a community and as being part of the community; only he is not part of it, but opposed. And the community has some good in common, and this the troll must know, and what things promote and destroy it: for he seeks to destroy. Hence no one would troll the remotest Mysian, or even know how, but rather a Republican trolls a Democratic blog and a Democrat Republicans. And he destroys the thread by disputing what is known to be true, or abusing what is recognised as admirable; or he creates fear about a small problem, as if it were large, or treats a necessary matter as small; or he speaks abuse while claiming to be a friend. And in general the troll says what is false but sounds like the truth—or rather he does not quite say it, but rather something very close to it which is true, or partly true, or best of all merely asks a simple question about the evidence for climate change. Hence the modes of trolling are many: the concern-troll, the one who ‘sees the other side’, the polite inquirer into the obvious. For the perfected troll has no need of rudeness or abuse, or even of fallacy (this belongs rather to sophistic or eristic, and requires making an argument): he only makes a suggestion or indication [sêmainein].

Beats horse de-worming paste, I guess. I would like to suggest that more automotive racing posts would grately improve SoylentNews. God knows nothing could be worse than the old man interest type of stories littering the front page of late.

The mailfence.com domain is often used by sock-puppets, spammers, malware and those using bots to try to create accounts. Unfortunately for this reason we have to use software to prevent accounts from this (and several other domains) from being created automatically.

Trying to create multiple accounts using the same email address is also an indicator of a bot. There was nothing wrong with your usernames.

I am quite happy that you now exist and I will activate one of the 4 accounts that you tried to create - you can only have 1 account. Please let me know which username you would prefer of the 4 that you have tried. Because you are using an email provider that hides your identity there may be other restrictions initially (e.g. not being able to post anonymously until you have built up sufficient karma. Building karma is automatic when you contribute comments and generally participate in the site.

I am quite happy to have tried to create a SoylentNews user account, and been rebuffed by your security measures. No need to allow me one account, since none of them worked.
