The time is not far off that your dishwasher has more, and more intelligent, twitter followers than yourself. What's more, he/she/it will probably have a better Internet connection too.

Ahem. Yet another car maker has announced plans to up a fleet of satellites into space, for reasons of Artificial Intelligence, Autonomous Driving, and oh, Global Monitoring of the Internet-of-Things.

This one is Chinese -- Geely Group, of Volvo and Lotus -- and is planning to launch a mere 500 satellites (a year). Plans were announced in March, factory has now been built, as well as the first two satellites destined for LEO. For fun and giggles, they've named it the OmniCloud.

Only a matter of time before some smartass thinks: 'Hey!! Cameras!!!!'

How else am I supposed to enforce my ownership of the South China Sea or Zhongtiao Mountains other than satellite mounted lasers? When it comes to letting an evil regime know who's boss, it's alibaba or bust.

I'd be more worried about the cameras in your home than the cameras presently several hundred miles up. It requires some serious hardware just to determine there's a naked body in your back yard from orbit. The dishwasher, assuming it somehow had line of sight, would have much better resolution even with some cheap camera on it.

This is why we have anti revenge porn and divorce laws.

On the other hand, a dishwasher tracking you around the house would be kinda suspicious, wouldn't it?

There are only two seasons in stargazing here in MN: too damned cold, and mosquito season. Not conducive to going outside in the buff.

At least you can get a good view - the skies are really nice up there, and you can get some Aurora.

No nekkid stargazing in your back yard. Please for the good of all humanity.

In order to practice safe social distancing at the beach, bring binoculars and use them from a distance.

While a camera can take pretty good pictures as seen by google maps. It would take some seriously deep pockets to be able to get down to the detail needed to track individual people or see them clearly at all.

You could get 2-meter resolution (and, purportedly, also 1-meter resolution) satellite pics on the free market (origin: the former USSR) in the beginning of the Naughties. The rumor then (mid-90s) was that the United States had the resolution of [classified] satellite pics down to 20 centimeter.

That being said, drones are probably a more cost-efficient way to go, if you add some stealth tech to them.

Low Earth Orbit needs to be filled with satellites because the aliens want to build space stations and star docks in Earth orbit, and the more satellites they put up, the harder it will be for us random members of the public to discover the alien space stations. It's quite simple really.
