Universal Pictures' Fast & Furious franchise will see the production of at least two more films:
Universal surprised the CinemaCon audience by debuting The Fate of the Furious, the eighth installment in Universal's hit franchise, in full Wednesday. Star-producer Vin Diesel took the stage to talk about the franchise, which he's been a part of since the beginning. "One of the things we're so proud of with this chapter is how much we defied expectations," said Diesel.
A ninth and tenth installment have also already been announced.
"As the world sees this movie, they'll see how its the beginning of a new trilogy," Diesel said, adding that certain characters were brought in for this new trilogy.
The late star Paul Walker, who died in a car crash before the seventh film was released, was on the mind of Diesel as he took the stage. "Part of Paul's legacy lives through every frame that we shoot," Diesel said. "There's something beautiful about that."

I wonder if Paul Walker was a racing buff before he acted in the Fast and the Furious movies.
It would have been like when Mel Gibson starred in Passion of the Christ and then literally thought he was Jesus when he called out the Jews for killing Christ and being everywhere in Hollywood.
The great Star Trek: TNG episode frame of mind is a meta-parody of what can go wrong with method-acting when one gets a little too much into character.

It was the 'sport driving' training in either F&F or 2F2F that got him into it, eventually leading to him buying an R34 skyline while Motorex was still importing them (similiar to his car in the movie. It later came out they had only crash tested the 96+ R33s, and were not in face retrofitting them according to government safety requirements, basically sinking the entire 'legitimate' greymarket import industry as a result. R32s, 1995 R33s, and 1999+ R34s either lacked correct emission gear, or safety requirements (notably airbags for 1995+ cars))

This is a golden goose for the studios and rather average actors involved. The 7th movie made over a billion dollars, in large part because of the death of Paul Walker who people only really know from being in this movie series... I'm not aware of any of his other movies being commercial or critical successes anywhere close to the commercial success of F&F... He was not an actor's actor with a huge list of credits in timeless classics that captivated audiences of all demographics.
They're going to milk it for all it's worth.

Not even joking. And frankly on a strictly artless, soulless, bitter, horrible, terrible level of business they'd be kind of dumb not to make another 2 trilogies at minimum until this growth stops.
2011: Fast Five, $125 million budget, $629 million worldwide box office
2013: Fast Six, $160 million, $790 million
2015: Furious Seven, $190 million, $1.5 goddamn billion
That's a money train that isn't going to stop rolling right there.

If they want to make serious money, the content creators ought to adapt this story to the stage. As of 2014, more than $6.2 billion in tickets had been sold to the theatrical version of The Lion King.
