Ron Gilbert's newest game, "Thimbleweed Park", has been out for a few months now but the latest patch is pretty neat.

https://forums.thimbleweedpark.com/t/thimbleweed-park-update-917-is-live/833

The most interesting parts are allowing the playable characters to talk to each other and recognition of each other when they walk past.

In a sign of the changing nature of gamers the game now includes a phone helpline but the helpline is called from phones within the game itself and it has an awareness of your progress so can give more tailored hints.

It is discussed in more detail here

Judging by the four screenshots on the web page of the manufacturer, the game is visually underwhelming. Probably on par with "Leisure Suit Larry." Not sure how the dialogs can save it.

Watched about 3 mins of a youtube video with one of the programmers:

go to take a picture of the corpse-- errrr, no film in camera. Click on the guy, he has the film. click on the 'give' button, click on the film, click on the female partner. He gives the film to her.

click on her, click on 'use', click on film, click on camera, film is loaded into camera.

click on use, click on camera, click on corpse to take pictureofthecorpse........ AND I WAS GONE. JUST TOO MUCH EFFORT in the first couple seconds JUST to take a picture of a corpse.
What is the rest of the game like?
Gotta go to the bathroom: click on toilet. Can't use toilet because lid is down.
Click on lid, click on lift. Lid lifts. Click on toilet, can't use toilet because zipper is still up. Click on zipper, click on zip. Zipper goes down.

Click on toilet: can't use toilet because underwear is still in the way, click on underwear.......

      No. Thank. You.

The epitome of irony is an asshat luser named after an obsolete protocol used for booting obsolete headless terminals who insists that a game doesn't look modern.

There ain't no graphics in TFTP. No graphics!

      GAMING!!!! IS!!!!! ABOUT!!!!!! GRAPHICS!!!!!!!!!!!

Asshats like tftp the asshat are why I gave up video gaming. I'm a cup-and-ball player now. Because FUCK YOU that's why.

That's on purpose. It's replicating the pixel art of the 80s, with dynamic lighting, parallax and antialiasing thrown in.

Appears to be some kind of video game. But no one has asked the most important question: "Does it run on Linux?"

Yes, it appears to be a video game, or, yes, it runs on Linux?

The game was OK. A good solid 90s LucasArts style game. Considering it was one of the dudes who basically invented that genre. Not too surprising.

The puzzles were fairly logical and not too much orthogonal thinking. Plus the clown was fucking amazing :)

It would have gone for 40-50 bucks back in the mid 90s. It is of as good of quality as any of the LucasArts advent style game. Does its graphics hold up to current titles? Not as good of graphics as the wadjet games which are of the same genre. Which is also of the retro pixel art style. But those usually are fairly grim stories. This one was pretty nice and had a good sense of humor. So yeah thumbs up.

My only real gripe is the interface. The classic LucasArt style verb menu is kind of annoying to use. They should have gone with a more modern verb ring. Such as what Full Throttle uses.
