Over the past two months, dozens of dead dolphins have washed ashore in Florida and hundreds of diseased seals have died in the northeastern United States, officials said Friday.

[...] From July 1 to August 30, a total of 48 dolphins have been found dead in southwest Florida, as a harmful algae bloom known as red tide killed hundreds of tons of fish from Naples to Tampa, said the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration.

[...] All 10 of the bottlenose dolphin autopsies—known as necropsies—done so far have tested positive for the red tide organism, Karenia brevis, a potent neurotoxin.

[...] Further north, along the coasts of Maine, New Hampshire and northern Massachusetts, an infectious disease outbreak has affected both harbor seals and gray seals.

Since July, there have been 599 confirmed cases "and probably in the hundreds of unconfirmed cases" of stranded seals, Rowles told reporters on a conference call.

Tests have shown some seals were sickened with either avian influenza or phocine distemper virus—which is related to canine distemper virus—and in some cases, both.

As long as one of them is Eric Prince, washout of the SEAL training program, Founder of the Mercenary company, "Blackwater", "Academi", or "Xi", war criminal wanted in several jurisdictions, servicer of Middle Eastern Oil Tyrants, and Brother to out mercenary Secretary of Education, Betsy. Runs in the family. The "Amway" family. Death on a beach from red tide is too good for them.

Yea, but he did tell us how the NYSD was pissed at the FBI for ignoring their requests to look at the stuff beyond their level they found on the Anthony Wiener laptop. I think he could turn out to be a very important figure.

The dolphins, as long as the size of populations isn't under stress, they'll be fine. A cause of the algae bloom (beside seasonal influence) would be nice to know though, especially when nutrient washout is involved.

The seals... that's just nature at work. Again, if the population is large enough, not a problem.

      Seals live, seals die.

Hate to see 'em go directly to waste... wonder if they can be cut up and placed below where trees are being planted?

My ancestors used to place a fish below a planting of corn seed for this same purpose.

I hate to see perfectly good biomass go to waste. Nearly everything has a use. Even an enormous dead fish.

You could compost them (although internal gas build up could have the bodies explode, creating a lot of yuck), but normally with things diseased they are burned so that the disease does not spread any further (or comes back later).

i watched some of a congressional committee hearing about this recently. couldn't take much though. sounded like they've (governments) known about this problem (re: florida) for years and have done nothing substantial about it. looking for more national funding and control as the cure for inactive state and local govs. yeah, ok fucktards.
