One thing about cash, it's very private. A lot of times that's a great thing. Sometimes, not so great. But I always ask for the receipt, and that's the best of both worlds. Another thing, there's no take-backs with cash. You know you've paid -- or gotten paid. When I was in the real estate business, we would get so many cash buyers. They'd come in with a big box of cash and buy an apartment -- or a whole floor of a building. Great customers. Another thing about cash, it always works. They have so much cyber now, this thing where I guess you wave your phone around. But it's not 100%, sometimes it has problems. They have to do the reboot, very slow. I try to always keep a little cash -- $20,000 or so -- in my wallet. Because sometimes I want something VERY FAST or I want it VERY PRIVATE.

There are still a couple of places here in town that take only cash. When the tornadoes hit here in March 2006 power was out for a week, meaning the bank was closed, ATMs didn't work, and most places that stayed open in the dark or had emergency lighting could only take cash; no power, no credit card readers.

My cats would have gone hungry had I not found an old store that still had the old fashioned card reader that used carbon paper.
