It's 2017. Why are there still Nazis?
It's a question many observers are asking after hundreds of white supremacists, many displaying swastikas and Confederate battle flags and shouting racist, anti-Semitic, and anti-communist slogans, took to the streets of Charlottesville, Va., this weekend, provoking violence that claimed the life of one counter-protester and resulted in multiple injuries.
The continued existence of people who hold openly white supremacist ideologies more than seven decades after the fall of the Third Reich can be explained, in part, through a social theory developed in the early 1990s. Social dominance theory seeks to explain how hierarchy-enhancing ideologies do not just drive social inequality, but are also a result of it. It suggests that a single personality trait, called social dominance orientation (SDO), strongly predicts a person's political and social views, from foreign policy and criminal justice to civil rights and the environment. What's more, it offers insight into how ideologies such as racism, sexism, and xenophobia tend to arise from the unequal distribution of a society's resources.
"Social dominance theory provides a yardstick for measuring social and political ideologies," says Felicia Pratto, who developed the theory with fellow psychologist Jim Sidanius. "SDO is one way – not the only one – to try to figure out what those ideologies are 'about.'"

AA was necessary in its time, but today, it benefits the society's upper crust who happens to be black, rather than the disadvantaged ones. That's PART of the problem, but there is more to it than just that.
I will note that membership in the KKK had fallen off, very badly, in the '90's. They were having recruiting drives all over the south, and mostly being laughed out of small towns. Specifically, our nation's unofficial propaganda machine is working to alienate a group of people - and government doesn't step in to stop it? You're saying that a very vocal, very small minority has the microphone, and the technicians who control the mic are cooperating with that minority. There is something badly wrong with that picture.
It sounds a lot like the old 'divide and conquer' stategem. Every one's attention is being diverted from something, onto these divisive issues.

That would explain why racist. Every racist hates at least one or more racial groups, always including Jews unless they have never encountered any. Including Jews themselves, hence the stereotype of the self hating Jew.
Unavoidable at this point really, the Jews survived the Diaspora by developing a culture that could retain cohesion as a minority within pretty much every other culture and they became very clannish and in grouped. So wherever they are found they will be working to safeguard their always precarious status by building ever more power and wealth. The benefits of strong ingroup networking combined with above average intelligence means they almost always become a wealthy minority. Their extreme ingroup trait and the antisemitism they encounter as a reaction means they will work to weaken the host culture as a self defense mechanism.
They should be 'encouraged' to either migrate home or fully assimilate. Especially in white lands where they can pull the "Quantum Jew" routine. But allowing a powerful, wealthy, smart and utterly hostile minority to remain is suicidal. Notice that most of the Alt-Right is pro Israel. Jews there aren't a problem, they should be free to aspire to greatness in their own land.

I read an interesting editorial several days back specifically about neo-nazism. The premise being that with the huge negative publicity that historical Nazis have gotten, pretty much everybody recognizes that they were monsters. And so neo-Nazism, actually voluntarily identifying yourself as a Nazi, is heavily dominated by individuals who want to be monsters themselves - the white (hetero-normative) supremacy is more of a rallying point around that cause than the focus itself - it gives them a common target, but the thing that really unifies them is the desire to have *any* target.

The one person waving an actual NAZI flag has been photographed in the middle of various liberal protests. He just likes to protest, or he is paid, or he has a spit personality disorder... whatever: he isn't for real.
Given the population of the USA, "hundreds" is just 1-in-a-million. You could find more people struck by lightening. This is not a political movement.
That "provoking violence" idea is quite the stretch. What, by merely showing up as allowed by our first amendment? That isn't a crime. The "counter-protester" group started the violence; that is in fact a crime. It's felony assault and rioting at minimum. At least the first group wasn't criminal.

Not sure why we're talking about Communists. Antifa seems to be related to a certain kind of anarchist. Pretty sure they're aligned neither with Communism nor the authoritarian regimes that have called themselves "Communist" in various countries. It's certain that Stalin was worse than Hitler. (also worse than Hitler: Pol Pot, Mao, Saddam, Idi Amin, Kim...) It's certain that Hitler did some great things for Germany, at least prior to that mistake with Poland. I'm not so sure this rises to the level of "good", but yeah he wasn't the Great Satan he's made out to be.
I think the real horror of WWII is that all the major players should have been allies against the growing horror of Islam. We had a chance. Germans and Japanese and Americans and Russians should have been working together to wipe out the primary existential threat to civilization.

When Trump got elected, I read Wilhelm Reich's Mass Psychology of Fascism to see if I could understand the sudden resurgence of right wing populism. I'd recommend it.
It's an insightful work, and tries to get to the root of the fascist mindset itself. Among other things, Reich attributes some of the blame to patriarchal authoritarian families, sexual repression, the ultra-competition of the then lower middle classes (and who *isn't* constantly forced to compete today) which prevented solidarity between workers, an obsession with the ideal forms (and rarely the reality) of honour and duty, and creating the ultimate father figure. Reich believed that repression, especially sexual repression, results in an often masochistic desire for authority. Reich considered fascism to be quite infantile psychologically.
You can see it too - those Charlottesville Neo-Nazis have deep, vengeful repression and desperate authority longing written all over them.

My father is a white supremacist, but not KKK. He's Christian Identity. It was boy-type Clinton that did it to him, if anything. Lots of people, dad included, were hoping for Jesus to return after a Jewish power grab following Y2K. Then Jesus was supposed to lead dad and his sons in jihad against the infidels.
I don't know if dad is still a Christian Identity minister; haven't spoken to him since.
What I'm struggling to understand is that if the people here and now, 17 years later, have grievances and believe that they really have become victims of racial oppression, why, of all things they could possibly choose to rally around, would they choose Nazis, the KKK, and the CSA?

Lots of reasons for Nazis. Not a lot of "real" Nazis though.
When the official Narrative says anyone to the Right of Antifa is a NAZI! it causes major distortions in reality. First you get the people who resign themselves to being labeled a Nazi regardless and decide if they can't escape the label to at least try out the stylish jackboots.

If you search hard enough though there ARE some actual Nazis who really know what it is and believe it. But then if you search hard enough you can find people who believe just about anything on the Internet. If every one of em converted a hundred new recruits they wouldn't be a big enough problem to justify keeping them as the designated #1 threat. As usual we chase phantoms to distract from actual problems.
As for Confederates, try reading some history. Dig though, remember that Lincoln's side won and got to write most of the history books so be sure to find some from the other side too. Until you actually know why so many Southerners who didn't own slaves were willing to fight and die you do not understand. Until you can see where both sides had an argument for being right AND were vulnerable to equally strong arguments as to why they were wrong; you do not understand. Until you realize that the Confederate veterans were eventually granted pensions and other benefits from the US Government and understand how that could happen, you still need to read more history. Reality is much more complex than the soundbites we are given.
Ponder this. The South lost, Lee surrendered. Yet there are statues of him across the country. There are few if any statues of General Cornwallis even though we now consider England our best friend and ally in the world. Why? When you know the answer you will achieve enlightenment.

That's nuts. Groups like BLM and Antifa aren't "creations of the Democratic party", they view the Democratic Party as a center-right party controlled by corporate interests. And it is. The fact that the Republican party now includes extreme-right elements doesn't make the Democrats leftists. And while Antifa does include some people who believe violence works (much like the US and state governments believe)(and a few of who are likely agents provocateur, not unlike those who work for the FBI and hustle disaffected people to form terrorist cells, so that they can then arrest them and brag about how the FBI is protecting everyone). BLM seems pretty peaceful, as far as anti-person violence goes. Note that BLM is not crowds rioting. And in any case let's not conflate breaking a window with terrorists who drive into crowds.

What I was referring to was all the military bases in the South. The big fuckers like Fort Bragg, Benning, Campbell, Hood, all that stuff around Pensacola etc.
I've been to Bragg many times. It's it's own city, and before 9/11 it was an open post and any Joe Shit the Ragman could just drive right in like any other city. Those army dudes are pretty cool, I enjoyed kicking it with them way more than I did the sniveling pussies of my own branch.
But yeah, Obeezy did start pussifying the military and because of that and heightened post-drawdown enlistment standards, all the tough potential recruits were weeded out and all the vets with combat experience are reluctantly bailing.
The point of the military is to fight. Brave people make better fighters than pussies do.

Rhineland was German territory and Hitler put military back where it was supposed to be. Stopped the from French looting his country any more, ended the terrible Treaty of Versailles.
Sudetenland contained Germans and they had to be freed. It was the honorable thing to do. A dishonorable thing would be to leave them at the mercy of whoever had more guns.

Correct. They wanted to intimidate everyone into surrendering at the first opportunity. Unfortunately for them, a certain Mr Winston Churchill [wikipedia.org] saw what they were up to and stood up to them while everyone else was too busy looking the other way and making apologies for them.
A few years later people came to their senses and teamed up to help defeat the Nazis.
I hope we don't see a repetition of this particular chapter of history. Let's nip it in the bud.

Churchill was a War Criminal. Then after the war he is supposed to have uttered these infamous words: "we've slaughtered the wrong pig". What can a normal, thinking, intelligent human make of that thing ... that smelly, filthy animal called churchill?
