The defualt wallpaper is having my animal scritch all the plastic off my LED MONITOR! Can we choose a different wallpaper? I cannot expect the scratches and whu not? Let's end the mouse games over here.

Have you tried a default wallpaper from Xubuntu 15.04:

http://xubuntu.org/screenshots/

I wonder if that fixes the problem.

Can't reproduce this bug, my cat is absolutely indifferent about it. What monitor do you use? Have you tried reporting the bug upstream at the cat vendor?

fix for cat's curiosity

Steps to reproduce?
1. Start Xfce, using the default mouse wallpaper
2. Leave the computer with the screen turned on and a cat in the same room

Expected results:
- The cat keeps sleeping

Actual results:
- The cat scratches the screen

Here's a potential patch, but I can't test it since I don't have the required hardware (cat).

Upgrade to Cat 6.

Bug was able to be reproduced, although inconsistently. Workaround not yet shown to be effective. Will require further observation and logging.

The suggested patch is causing a re-aggression.
I don't have a cat, but I applied the patch and now my computer is dead. I have a dog.

The story damaged my keyboard as well. Don't drink and read, I guess. Especially the sweet, sticky coffee I drink is hard to remove from the screen and the keyboard-gaps.

When a counter reached 4,294,967,296 (seconds), Windoze would freeze. [google.com]

...of course, in order to experience this bug, your Windoze install would actually have to stay up for 49 days without a reboot.

Windoze has detected that you moved your mouse. Would you like to restart the operating system so that the changes can take effect?

My cat is fascinated by my DVD player's screen saver, which consists of a bouncing logo against a dark background. He follows the logo's movements, and a couple of times has tried to grab it!

It's a good thing that, when I was using XFCE, I used my distribution's default background instead of the XFCE default!

Mine loves the printer. When I turn it on she runs over to the closest chair, sits, and stares at it. She's really fascinated when I actually print something.

Indeed, that was my first thought too.

What's next? A bug report submitted for a guy who likes to work with his office window open? "It turns out bees and other insects are known to be attracted to the bright colors of the default desktop wallpaper. Thus, I am confronted by insects buzzing around me constantly while I am trying to work! Needs critical fix now!!" Followed by replies like, "Uh... just close the damn window?!"

Of course, that could work into an April 1st story better -- for the ultimate proof that Linux is still too "buggy" for the desktop.... :)

Whoa there, no need to get drastic. A bug screen properly applied to the window should fix the problem while allowing proper ventilation to hit the workstation.

In /usr/include/X11/bitmaps/ you will find a selection: root_weave is strong, with a few small holes, whilst 2x2 is strong but has many large holes and 1x1 is delicate with many small holes.
