While Stargate SG-1 and Stargate Atlantis are my favorite TV shows and I wouldn't mind finding out what was at the end of the Stargate Universe journey, I didn't really mind Stargate Universe ending. What I want at the very least is an ending to Stargate Atlantis. They were supposed to make a couple movies but they got canned when Stargate Universe failed to get renewed. What I would really like is another spin-off that goes back to the Stargate SG-1 and Stargate Atlantis style.

Farscape lasted a few seasons. Firefly only lasted a few episodes, but had a big-screen movie... which didn't manage to garner enough interest to justify a comeback.
I loved both series, but I gotta give this one to Farscape. (I'm also glad it's not Lexx... yeesh.)
I am a traveler of both time and space. Duh.

It makes no sense to me. Farescape is good, but it's cheesy. Compared the Firefly the characters are 2D, the story daft and the production values much lower.
It seems that the public doesn't like serious sci-fi though, with realistic characters and plots. I think that is why Stargate Universe failed, but it doesn't explain why Atlantis didn't keep going.

Or to put it another way, Farscape had a chance to exhaust its possibilities - I liked the first couple of seasons, it really dared to be different, but got bored with it towards the end (the 'Loony Tunes' episode was the shark-jumping event for me: inspired, but once you start seeing D'Argo as Wile-y-Coyote, that's all folks). Later episodes just seemed to consist of endless bickering.
Firefly didn't get a chance on its first TV showing: episodes shown out of order, pre-empted by sport etc. but sold a metric shedload of DVD box sets. The movie was always going to be a hard sell (no big stars) - and they didn't sell it very hard. Methinks they probably made a few pennies off DVD sales, though.
Of course, what would be even better is if they got some good writers to come up with a new, original space opera?
Or tried filming some SF books? (Altered Carbon, Consider Phlebas*)? Some of the Peter F Hamilton tomes would make good Game-of-Thrones-esque "fantasy soaps".

I want to know if Firefly got cancelled because their weren't enough people who liked it or because it was not promoted enough. I didn't find out about Firefly till long after it was cancelled but it is an awesome TV series.

Tried this, and managed to live past the strong Australian accents, but both my wife and I drifted out someway into season 3. We tend to only watch things by binge viewing, and farscape is the only failure we've had.

not even that, I jsut finished watching it from start to Finnish last week.. I cant count the number of times important stuff happens in between episodes or total off screen and you don't find out about it until latter.
You can miss stuff that didn't even happen! checking and double checking you haven't missed a whole episode for some reason.

If it stars Claudia Black and Ben Browder... i might die of a dopamine overdose. I only first knew of them through Stargate SG-1 (which was phenomenal) and when that finished i couldn't resist but to binge out the Farscape boxset afterwards. Personally, i can't wait. While Farscape was fairly cheesy in places, the magic between John and Aeryn was just like Mulder and Skully for me. They were really likeable characters.

SG-1 may have been campy, but it was fun watching the first 7 seasons then they kept going. Seasons 8 and 9 were downhill, but in season 10 when they shook up the cast with the new additions it started to get fun again just as it was cancelled. Which was a shame, but MGM was in dire finances at the time and so....

For me, the shows strong points were the characters. The interactions between John, Harvey, and Scorpius completely make the show for me, but you have to work your way up to those. At points it feels like a D&D game in space. The show provides the bad guys, teaches you to hate them, and then makes them your friend in a round about way. The fun and often crazy insane interactions between the shipmates make them all oh so likeable.
The one thing I didn't care for was all of the monster of the week episodes. It helped flesh out some characters, but they always left me wanting them to get back to the story arch. Granted, I've rewatched the series ~4 times now, and these bother me less now than the first watch through.
Scorpius: Kill her. Then we'll have pizza and margarita shooters. Go on, John. Kill her. Do it. Do it.

I ask because "For me, the shows strong points were the characters" left the apostrophe out of "show's". Spelling and punctuation are important in written communications. There's a reason that there, their, and they're are spelled differently.

Buy the whole Farscape boxed sets of all seasons and the Peacekeeper Wars. It is well worth it I assure you. This is one of those times when you don't need a review or any other information other than knowing that you have seriously been missing out.
It's like being given the Firefly series on DVD not knowing what it is. :)
Then dying a little at the end knowing that there is no second series and being consoled by there being a movie completely optional.
For Farscape there are lots of episodes before this happens

At first what I saw was...too friggin' weird and loopy.
The intro after each commercial break was the worst. (Probably filler for TV)
I couldn't get into it until saw enough to get some key bits of the story.
Only after you get some of the story you understand why it was cheesy and Muppets were involved. The story and seemingly trivial details are not trivial. They chose to work on the story over production value much like they did Dr. Who. It's not as slick as Star Trek but at least you care about the characters. whereas in ST:Voyager, you wished they would just get home or assimilated already.
