"Season two of the Saturn Award nominated Hannibal, which is based on characters from the novel Red Dragon, debuts tonight (NBC 10 pm EST). The brain child of the delightfully quirky and morbid Bryan Fuller (Pushing Daisies, Dead Like Me), Hannibal is nominated in the Best Network TV Series and Best Actor (Mads Mikkelsen) categories. A guest turn on Hannibal as Bella Crawford (starring opposite real-life husband Laurence Fishburne) earns Gina Torres (Firefly) her first Saturn nomination.

The Saturn Awards are presented by the Academy of Science Fiction, Fantasy & Horror Films, and they reward the best in both film and television in those genres. A quick scan down the list of nominees for the 40th annual awards shows how varied the field is. Blockbusters like Star Trek Into Darkness and The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug are on the list, but so is the Siri-seduction film Her and the historical drama The Book Thief."

Females can be nerds too, and if stories like this don't appeal, we won't run them. It's that simple. However, I didn't know about the Saturn Awards, so that was cool. Best way for us to know not to run stories like this is comments like yours. Thanks for reading! ~mattie_p

I agree with the GPP and mattie_p. If we are going to stay focused on News for Nerds, then let's do that. As mattie_p mentioned though, I had not heard about the Saturn awards either. (queue the "turn in your nerd card" comments.) A better play would have been for the editor to spin this into a story about the 2014 nominations.

PS making this a male/female thing was a dick move.

Valuable feedback. One thing I can confirm is that our staff and editors read your comments, and we do learn from it. The next editor meeting we are going to be looking at specific articles that "worked," ones that didn't, and figure out why, so we can do better. Comments like yours are valuable in this effort. Thank you! ~mattie_p
