    Somebody gave me a couple bags of it last summer. It's bitter, and I perceive no hallucinogenic or other special effects to justify it. Is there some special way to prepare it that steeping it like regular tea doesn't achieve?

    It's just a different type of caffeineated tea as far as I know, and it became hip in the west a few years ago.
