This is from last month but there's no newer article about AV1:
Google’s Royalty-Free Answer to HEVC: A Look at AV1 and the Future of Video Codecs
AV1 can be used together with the audio format Opus in a future version of the WebM format for HTML5 web video and WebRTC.
What kind of features are you looking for in AV1 (other than the obvious: better compression efficiency than H.265/HEVC)?

It would be nice to have one container format with lossy or lossless surround sound with effects on a separate track to multi-lingual dialog, optionally with lossy or lossless video in Y, YUV or RGB with 8, 10, 12 or 16 bit depth. Support for unreliable datagram streaming. Support for multiple viewports and/or 360 degree wrap-around flags. Optional color channels with user-defined peak wavelength and spread would be very useful for astronomy or security cameras. Optional transparency channel of 1 bit or more. Optional six-axis meta data. Optional haptic channels. GPS meta-data channel. PCAP meta-data channel. Overlapping hyperlinked areas.

That is an interesting list.
H.265 has support for 10, 12, 14, and even 16-bit in various profiles:

I have not seen any content or hardware with 12-bits and above color depth, although I haven't looked too closely. 10-bit I have seen. Animu encoders were some of the first to jump on it (for video). Is there really that much demand for 12/14/16-bit depth video (not counting professional Photoshop users here)?
