Don't complain about lack of options. You've got to pick a few when you do multiple choice. Those are the breaks.
Feel free to suggest poll ideas if you're feeling creative. I'd strongly suggest reading the past polls first.
This whole thing is wildly inaccurate. Rounding errors, ballot stuffers, dynamic IPs, firewalls. If you're using these numbers to do anything important, you're insane.

Based on the question, the "classic green site trope" has to be Cowboy Neal. It is the only trope that really belongs to the green site. The rest are all memes that either arose independent of Slashdot (hot grits, the Russian Reversal, Frikkin' laser beams, and insensitive clod), were a part of general Internet culture (Beowulf cluster, Netcraft confirms it, and can it run Linux). But good ole Cowboy Neal? That is pure Slashdot and only Slashdot. Other memes may have been used there, maybe even more than at other sites. But Cowboy Neal is the only one on that list that is truly and only home at Slashdot.
I had to laugh. I'm the same age as he was in "Moonraker". I have fewer wrinkles probably from less sun exposure, and my skin isn't as red. I do NOT do the 1970s sideburns. But yeah I still kind of look like that dude.

if only we had a cowboy cluster of Beowulf Neales, with linux poll beams, would it become year of windoze on in soviet bbs, where we would be free to spin up a distro on russian metal with bare basement, IMHO, TLDR, TFA WTF dis?
I remember getting pretty ticked off about the wednesday 2pm central time e-ink story. There began to be a pattern, then one last one came along at 2pm and that was essentially my last post on /.
I gave cmdrtaco a bunch of shit about it offsite and I also met at least one editor/jannie/wtf IRL in person at a computer conference and everyone insists the old site was not paid to post astroturf ads.
I think years/decades later, being as charitable as possible, during boring times of minimal news, they pulled from a pool of filler and "back in the day" the pool of filler at the time was pee'd full of e-ink, e-ink press releases, e-readers based on e-ink, e-ink e-ink e-ink. So it was coincidental that I'd be bored, the site would be bored, they gotta post something from the pool of filler, thus a MUCH higher than average chance of an e-ink story being used as filler material.
Kind of like you can set your watch by the righto.com blogposts being made stories. The difference between righto.com blogposts and eink stories is I really like righto.com blogposts so I don't mind that SN essentially has a RSS feed from Mr. Ken (and I suppose indirectly from Mr. Marc and friends etc)
I think maybe /. would have been better off posting nothing rather than occasionally posting slop during quiet times. Yeah yeah X posts per day to keep the buzz but if there just aren't X quality posts some days, well, I'd have preferred seeing "X-1" posts that day to seeing (X-1) good stories plus one story of slop.

"During filming for The Spy Who Loved Me, Moore suffered burns on his buttocks during a chair explosion stunt." LOL I have avoided that so far.
I was surprised to find out he died in 2017 I hope I make it to 90. I'll probably still be shitposting on SN into the 2060s.
