This miniature Arduino that includes an OLED display called the MicroView is an interesting development. It is available from Kickstarter and has already been funded over $250,000 (10 times the goal). I hadn't previously heard about their earlier project Ninja Blocks, but it's evidence the team knows how to bring a product to market already. From the article:

You basically get a micro controller and a lot of inputs and you can drive the display via software, allowing you to build wacky little projects with various sensors, motors, and I/O devices.

The Microview can be programmed and powered from multiple sources although the guys who made it, Geek Ammo, are offering a little serial-to-USB programmer for $10 extra. It seems like it works great for wearables and for creating tiny brains for robots and sensor systems. It can also be used as a small ambient data display for cars, computers, and other tools.

Ok where's that AC that was bragging about his Arduino powered buttplug? He could finally get modded up!

Buttplug with a screen? Sort of scary.

Great concept and worthy developers. Their initial target of $25k was very conservative for such a product, glad to see it got funded.

      I like it.

with these kind of projects there is always a trade-off. you can get an arduino + oled from ebay for 12 dollars. you have to wire them up and get some kind of casing.

on the otherhand this unit is a bit pricy, but has a nice enclosure. you don't need expensive equipment to create a PCB for the SMD connectors, and the WAF (Wife Acceptance Factor) will be a lot higher if i put this in my living room..

This uses a dinky 16 MHz microcontroller with a few kB of external RAM, no? Doesn't the Pi run at several hundred MHz, have hundreds of megs (256? 512?) of RAM plus external storage (multi-GB SSD?), yadda yadda... ? (no, I'm not going to look it up)

Sounds like an apples and bowling balls comparison.
