After an update released last Tuesday, August 12 some users are reporting a Stop 0x50 error on some systems, mostly on Windows 7 PCs running the 64-bit version of the OS. Microsoft is asking users to avoid the update if it hasn't already been installed. If you are suffering from the the 0x50 error here's a link from the article to Microsoft's support page for the bug MS14-045: Description of the security update for kernel-mode drivers: August 12, 2014

Keep up to date yourself - it's not Patch Tuesday any more, but Update Tuesday.
The suggestion from Microsoft was issued only 36 hours before this story was posted in the queue. Lots of things that happened some time ago are still stories today - NSA spying, riots beginning in Ferguson, driverless cars, etc. But they all continue to be stories today.

For years, I've been hearing/reading Microsofties telling me that it was the drivers that caused Windows to crash, but Windows itself was actually very stable.

One of the things that very much impresses me about Linux is the quality of the drivers. Heck just the fact that drivers exist - e.g. for my Windows 7 I couldn't find drivers for my mainstream Samsung phone just to do things like download photos. On Ubuntu, it works out of the box (I didn't even need to search the package repository), e.g. for my wireless mouse, I notice that ubuntu now tells me how much battery life is left - I've never seen this in windows. Fab!

Didn't they lay off most of their testers recently? I'm guessing a lot of them are laughing right now.

"Microsoft is asking uses to avoid" You mean 'users'

No, it was "asking to avoid using". Always sound advice, regarding Windows! BSOD is back? People keep telling me this is a thing of the past! But I guess it is a thing of the past as in "still a thing". What, prithee, is a thing?

My son had this last week on 8.1 (new machine used for games that are not ported yet on steam) took me a while to fix. getting that bitch in to safe mode was fun (I wasn't fast enough with F8) then used system restore... what a balls up. He was genuinely concerned as he thought he would have to do a reinstall. The good news is as soon as steam have ported the games he wants to linux, I'll have a usb ready to wipe that POS OS off his machine :D

I don't know why I bother reading the comments on any article that mentions Microsoft or Windows, its always just the same "Windoze sux! Use linux!" messages over and over again with little variation.

I personally don't care who uses windows, or Microsoft products, I let my son use it, I however never will unless forced (like last week) I just use the tool that suits my lazy ways, and that for me is Linux, install, update and reboot once (kernel update) and use, not install, update, reboot, update, reboot, hunt app dvd's cd's or hunt the net for drivers and apps then install apps needed and use...
Each to his /her own I guess, and no I don't use any flavour of Ubuntu.
