Back in May, Member of the European Parliament (MEP) Julia Reda wrote a blog post warning of pending legislation promoting out-of-control censorship. Now she has noticed that out-of-control censorship machines removed her article warning of out-of-control censorship machines, thus proving her point about how these proposed laws would be misused.

A few days ago, about a dozen articles and campaign sites criticising EU plans for copyright censorship machines silently vanished from the world’s most popular search engine. Proving their point in the most blatant possible way, the sites were removed by exactly what they were warning of: Copyright censorship machines.

Among the websites that were made impossible to find: A blog post of mine in which I inform Europeans about where their governments stand on online censorship in the name of copyright and a campaign site warning of copyright law that favors corporations over free speech.

SN has had many articles on the topic, which unfortunately continues to press.

Under current US law, Google allows a number of companies to directly and without oversight remove sites from its search index, based purely on the claim that copyrights are being infringed. In effect, a handful of media companies have control over what we can – and can’t – find online.

One of them is Symphonic Distribution, who offer a service called “Topple Track” . This service sent a notice to Google on July 22 falsely claiming that my blog post and a number of other sites were somehow infringing on the copyright of an Australian TV starlet. Automated systems at Google honored the claim and delisted the pages, sight unseen.

Topple Track boasts that they’ve removed over 7 million links from search engines for their music industry clients, and that 99% of their removal requests were honored. With their service now exposed to be so obviously dysfunctional, it’s unknowable how many more of these takedowns were fraudulent, and how many more articles are wrongly “shadowbanned” from the internet without their authors even being aware.

After the EFF uncovered further fraudulent removals by Topple Track and TorrentFreak covered the story, Google reportedly terminated its trusted partnership with the company.

From the Wikipedia page about Julia Reda: [wikipedia.org]

Reda became a member of the centre-left Social Democratic Party of Germany when she was 16 years old.[3] She studied politics and publicity sciences at the University of Mainz.[2] In 2009, Reda started to become active for the national Pirate Party and from 2010 to 2012 she was chairperson of the Young Pirates (Junge Piraten). In 2013, she was one of the co-founders of the Young Pirates of Europe. In January 2014, she was chosen to top the list of the candidates for the European Elections for the Pirate Party Germany, who subsequently won one seat.[4]

Also an the Wikipedia page of the Pirate Party Germany, [wikipedia.org] in the box on the right, you'll find under "Ideology" besides others: "Social liberalism"

Are you arguing that social liberalism is far-right?

No, but it is all your fault, janrinok! Give some thought to allowing some aristarchus submissions to get through, to balance out the far-right bias of chromas, cmn5342, and TMB, oh, and takyon, although he is not so bad. It may save the reputation that SoylentNews is getting as a hive of scum and alt-right villainy. But, ultimately, the choice is yours. I just keep looking at the comments counts, and wondering how much longer the whole dream that was SoylentNews can continue. You killed it, janrinok. We do let some of your submissions through (approximately 25 to date) - but only when they contain new material that is worth discussing. Otherwise, all you are spouting is your own propaganda which you believe is a counter to the alt-right propaganda. We do not publish anyone's propaganda! We reject other submissions that try to do what you do. You are also confusing comments - where you and I (and anyone else) can say what they wish - with submissions. I've looked at the submissions from some of those that you have mentioned and none of them have submitted anything with an obvious political leaning. So you want to counter their comments with your submissions? - nope, that is not going to happen. If you cannot argue your case in the discussion that follows a posting, then it seems to me that your position and views are indefensible, or you are not as intelligent as you think you are.

The only place that the alt-right get to state their case is in the comments - and I've already covered that. Anyone can express their own opinion and the only moderation is that by fellow members of the community. What is driving people away is the lack of intelligent conversation which is being replaced with your 'Free Aristarchus' and rDT's alter-ego complaining and whining. What is killing this site is the inclusion of politics, arguing about which is about as useful as the supporters of 2 opposing football teams screaming at each other but not listening to what is actually being said. Try having an intelligent conversation for a change. You are no more a Greek philosopher than rDT is a President. You, and those like you, are what is spoiling this site in my honest opinion.
