The New Hampshire Supreme Court recently struck down a law that restricts potentially offensive vanity license plates. According to Seacoast Online:
In a unanimous decision, the state Supreme Court agreed with the arguments of David Montenegro, who wanted the vanity plate reading "COPSLIE" to protest what he calls government corruption.
State law prohibits vanity plates that "a reasonable person would find offensive to good taste." But the New Hampshire Civil Liberties Union argued that the law is unconstitutionally vague and gives too much discretion to a person behind a Department of Motor Vehicles counter.

Just looked up the rules, and here are the high points:
- Up to 7 characters
- No spaces
- You can use -, &, and + (but not two of them in a row)

Seriously, I found your journal post amusing and truthful. We have Mexican neighbors who work hard and limit their households to single 'American'-size families and nice cars. In fact, comparing our properties, I'd say we're the Mexicans of the neighborhood and we're just about the only white people left.
On the other hand, being in a farming area, we have a shitton of Mexicans everywhere who do things like swap license plates; their kids are the ones who comprise the local gangs (whose graffiti is mostly lazy scribbles) and get shot in the back when they run away from robbing a local shoe store.
