  • Don't complain about lack of options. You've got to pick a few when you do multiple choice. Those are the breaks.
  • Feel free to suggest poll ideas if you're feeling creative. I'd strongly suggest reading the past polls first.
  • This whole thing is wildly inaccurate. Rounding errors, ballot stuffers, dynamic IPs, firewalls. If you're using these numbers to do anything important, you're insane.

The anger is because supply is tied up by a few corporate behemoths and tech barons who are working on AI. The AI isn't being created to benefit the people, but to automate our jobs away and make us obsolete. The AI is being developed without concern for ethics and safety, and if the AI compromises critical systems or us used to develop deadly weapons, a lot of people may die as a result. Some of the people pushing the hardest for AI almost seem to describe it in spiritual terms, like it's their god. Most are just greedy, people who have already have far more money than they could ever possibly need, but they still want more. Prices are high, not because the components are being used for good, but because they're being used to create something that will work against us. When people complain about this, they're treated dismissively and told they should just shut up and accept that this is how capitalism works.

It is a giant middle finger pointed directly at the masses. Anger is the proper response.

Given that there's supposedly a couple of churches out there [soylentnews.org], that's probably true. But so what? Why should I be concerned about sky gods with plugs?

I guess what I really should be asking is what did you do with your agency? I keep hearing how mean people (and mean corporate behemoths) are making choices for you. Why do you let them do that? The narrative of futility breaks down when you just do something.

Unlike the old fashioned Sky Daddys who "watch you while you are sleeping, know when you are awake" and will "damn you to Hell for all eternity (in the afterlife)" these sky gods actually live in our Universe, and on our actual planet. They are competing for the same limited resources you use in daily life.

You do as well. What should I be doing about you?

I guess my point is that we already have peaceful ways to resolve resource competition via our economic systems. I think there's reason to expect we could integrate AI sky daddies into our world much as we do each other.

Well, there's always "The Final Solution" - but I'd advise against that, the side effects are ugly.

            >we already have peaceful ways to resolve resource competition via our economic systems.

Which earthbound sky daddy sold you that one? We have lots of theoretical peaceful ways to resolve resource competition, and yet we still end up blowing each other up over resources.

            >I think there's reason to expect we could integrate AI sky daddies into our world much as we do each other.

Let's all join hands around the campfire and sing Kum-ba-ya now... I too believe there's a place for LLM agents and the data centers they require to function.

I also believe that, like .com and the railroads and so many other things over the years, our pyramid-top dwellers are over-enthused about this particular shiny new thing, and they're overdoing it in competition with each other, each attempting to benefit from "first mover advantage" to make their own pyramid perch a bit higher relative to the competition, because what other meaning is there in their lives, really? We don't really have any economic system that resolves dragon hoard flinging competitions.

Since Mansa Musa [wikipedia.org] and likely even before, when the ultra wealthy get loose with their shiny bits, it screws over what semblance of balance the rest of us had before their exuberant excrement of wealth they have accumulated beyond any reasonable needs or uses.

Actually capitalism is an excellent system for dealing with dragon hoard flinging competitions. There's plenty of opportunity to dissipate wealth - which I understand is a common obsession of people who talk about dragon hoards.

We have lots of theoretical peaceful ways to resolve resource competition, and yet we still end up blowing each other up over resources.

Should we resort to the blowing up before AI has shown itself to be such a problem?

It's not as if I upgrade that often anyway and I don't play computer games much. More vram would be nice but meh.

Nice poll topic whoever thought this one up. It made me LOL.
