JWST Primary Mirror Starting To Come Together

Accepted submission by hubie at 2015-11-19 23:46:37
Science

The primary mirror for the James Webb Space Telescope (JWST) [nasa.gov] will consist of 18 separated mirror segments. The optical for the primary is now finally coming together with the mounting of the first mirror segment [optics.org]. Assembly of the full primary will occur over the next year and the curious can watch it come together minute-by-minute on the JWST Webbcams [nasa.gov]. Those wanting to see faster progress can break out their Benny Hill music [wikipedia.org] and watch JWST Time-Lapse movies. [nasa.gov]
