In an unexpected move, the CEO of at&t, credited as being "highly collaborative" with the US government and has installed far more surveillance equipment than its fellow US wireless carriers, has spoken with The Wall Street Journal, [wsj.com] saying “I don’t think it is Silicon Valley’s decision to make about whether encryption is the right thing to do. I understand Tim Cook’s decision, but I don’t think it’s his decision to make"

This statement is made at a time when US cellular phone companies are being targeted on both coasts [9to5mac.com] with legislation demanding on-demand government access to all handsets.
