Wednesday LinkedIn unveiled
their new private cloud [linkedin.com], and announced plans to Open Source parts of it soon. Their new LPS ("LinkedIn Platform as a Service"), is billed as "an entire data center as a single resource pool to application developers," which they described to one technology site as "taking automation to the next level... We are now
automating the whole process of managing applications [thenewstack.io]." While it's starting as a proprietary system to solve specific issues internally, "We are committed to contributing clean, well-documented code that can have a substantial and lasting impact in the broader open source community," says LinkedIn engineer Steven Ihde. "In the future, we will review what parts of the system could and should be released under an open source license."
