Passenger Railway to Los Angeles Is Extended

News

A light rail [wikipedia.org] line which connected downtown Los Angeles to Culver City [wikipedia.org] has now been extended to the seaside community of Santa Monica [wikipedia.org]. The Santa Monica terminus [dictionary.com] (end) is the only station in the Los Angeles light rail system that is adjacent to a beach.

The Expo Line [wikipedia.org] follows a route that had been used for the same purpose from 1908 to 1953, when the Pacific Electric [wikipedia.org] system was decommissioned. The Los Angeles Railway [wikipedia.org], another passenger rail network, was closed around the same time.

The 6.6-mile (10.6 km) Phase 2 extension, built at a cost of $1.5 billion, opened on 20 May.
