The Register [theregister.co.uk] (non-Cloudflare link [archive.is]) reports that police in Annapolis, Maryland unsuccessfully used a Stingray [wikipedia.org] device in their investigation of a robbery "of 15 chicken wings and three sandwiches" from an employee of a restaurant. According to the police, a court order had been obtained for use of the device. Stingrays spoof cellular towers and collect the IMSIs of nearby mobile phones.
