After a U.S. federal judge cancelled a non-disclosure order, Lavar Levinson made a public statement about his former e-mail service, Lavabit. The statement confirmed that Levinson's shut-down of the service came in response to U.S. government actions against Lavabit user Edward Snowden.
That fact, which had been widely believed, was confirmed in March when the e-mail address <Ed_Snowden@lavabit.com> was mistakenly left in a court document being made public [wired.com].
