BBC News [bbc.co.uk] and CNN [cnn.com] (disable CSS if page appears blank) report that the Council of State, a French administrative court, has suspended the ban on "burkini [wikipedia.org]" swimsuits enacted in the town of Villeneuve-Loubet. The court has not yet decided whether the ban is legal or not. In the ruling, the court said that the ban "seriously and clearly illegally breached fundamental freedoms." Several other towns have recently enacted similar bans.

The Guardian [theguardian.com] (safe for work) reported on an incident in Nice in which the ban was enforced: police appeared to make a sunbather remove part of her suit.
