An article from The Atlantic Sept 2015 that fairly discusses the negative effects of the rise on American Campuses of a culture of avoiding possible "triggers" and punishing perceived "microaggressions".
The negative effects include: a dampening of "freedom of speech"; students that have limited
exposure to education and ending up with a non well rounded college education; students ending
up with a thin skin and will not be able to socially function in the real world; students responding
to perceived "microaggressions" with true aggression in terms of verbal, social, and physical abuses;
including actions that can permanently affect a persons career and reputation. The longish article also discusses more scientific and rational approaches to dealing with "triggers" and "microaggressions" without as many negative side effects.
