News

With the news that the Thai boys who were stuck in a flooded cave were, remarkably, rescued without any of them dying (https://www.bbc.com/news/world-asia-44786758), I thought it would be interesting to submit an article about the technical challenges of cave diving, in particular rescue diving. “Rescues are actually pretty rare.”

What Robert Laird, the co-founder of International Underwater Cave Rescue and Recovery, means is this: When cave divers get in serious trouble, they usually die. There is no one to rescue, just a body to recover.
