In recent years Netflix has spashed our billions on its own content to the derision of its detractors and applause of its investors and users. With its own library of content growing Netflix could become independent of the big content producers becoming a heavyweight in its own right. Meanwhile those content producers are pulling the rug from under Netflix looking to take back control of their content and perhaps kill off a competitor in a space they are late arriving in by cancelling Netflix streaming rights for Friends and other older content [news.com.au]. Warner, who owns the broadcast rights to Friends, is looking to launch their own streaming service "HBO Max" in 2020. As with the new Disney+ streaming service Warner will be looking to ensure their service is as attractive to customers as possible in an already crowded market for streaming services. While Netflix may have hit the right combination of price, content and technology to provide a platform for which users are willing to pay for instead of getting content for free, market saturation and content siloing may very well undo what Netflix has built.
