The US is preparing to hand over control of DNS to an international, non-governmental organization [arstechnica.com]. ICANN's current contract expires in September 2015 — the organization has been instructed to plan a hand-over.

The form of the international organization remains unclear — looks like we have lots of work to do to ensure it is something we can all live with.
