Security

During the night of All-Saints upon All-Souls, again a large number of refrigeration systems in supermarkets (and smaller shops) have been hacked in Belgium, Sweden and Estland; while US military bases suffered similar attacks [reuters.com] in August.

The attackers remotely switched the units' evaporators to defrost mode, causing the fridges to warm up. Freezer temperatures were set to 50 degrees Celsius (122 degrees Fahrenheit), just like with last month's attacks [soylentnews.org] in France, Belgium, the Netherlands and Germany. To prevent the attacks, a software update alone is not enough [belganewsagency.eu] -- the units need physical modifications.

It is unknown as yet who is behind the attacks.
