US drops mistaken charges against physicist

According to APS News [aps.org], the United States has dropped its indictment against Xiaoxing Xi, a Chinese-American physicist. Mr. Xi had signed a non-disclosure agreement with the company STI when he bought a Pocket Heater, a piece of equipment used to make superconducting films of magnesium diboride [wikipedia.org]. The government had charged him with wire fraud, claiming that he had e-mailed information about the Pocket Heater to his colleagues in China, thereby violating the NDA. After Xi's lawyers presented statements from experts, including one of the inventors of the Pocket Heater, saying that Xi's e-mails were not about the device at all, the charges were dropped.
